I've got tickets, I've had them for 2 Months. But I Can't go.

Because I'm in Court for the duration of the show Thumbs Down

No, no, no. You're ALL wrong.

You were all thinking "Bloody hell, what on Earth is 'The Old Geeza' in Court for?"

Well...

I've been summoned for Jury Service. So, I've got to go and do my bit as an honourable, upstanding member of Society.

So, if one of you are due in court at the end of October. Just be careful. Because 'The Old Geeza' will be on the Jury Wink

Ive decided not to go this year, i don't think that there will be alot thats different to last year, but if anyone wants some cheap tyres, or possibly some riding gear at a decent/reduced price it's worth going for. I got a set of pirelli diablo corsa's for £160 last year.

Instead im going to go to the Off road bike show on in November, at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. Ive never been to this show before, and it's probably going to interest me more than another same but different year at the NEC.

I hate to say this, dodsi, but when I found out I had to spend two weeks in Court, I smacked my computer desk, ripped up the tickets and threw them in the bin.

I was absolutely fucking gutted. I only passed my own bike test this year - it was the dream of my life. Got a bike of my own and bought some tickets for the NEC Bike Show.

Then HMCS (Her Majesty's Court Service) sent me this summons for Jury Service. So, I decided "there will always be another Bike Show" and cut up the tickets I had for me and my lady.

Not for one moment did I never think of offering them to anyone on BCF. It never crossed my mind that someone else might have been interested in buying them. I was too annoyed at being summoned for Jury Service when I had other things planned.

In hindsight, I would have given them away free of charge. I just never gave it a thought.

My sincere apologies to everyone Crying or Very sad

The Old Geeza.

Should have done your homework Old Geeza Laughing

Work commitments can be important and hard to break. Being busy at work isn't enough to excuse you from jury service altogether, but you can to ask for your service to be postponed until a later date. Postponing for this kind of personal reason is known as deferral of jury service.

Your work commitments may prevent you from serving on a jury at the time that you are summoned but won't prevent you from serving at another date. If your service is deferred you will be asked to confirm any other dates in the year when you won't be able to attend, so that you are given a new date that is convenient. Jury service can only be deferred once.

You apply to have your jury service deferred by completing the section in the summons form called 'Deferral and Excusal'. When this has been accepted you will get a letter confirming the deferral and giving you a new date for your jury service. You cannot defer twice and must attend on this second occasion.

You can find out more about Jury service at www.juror.cjsonline.org.

Blah, blah, blah...

I'm an old bloke. I've been around for quite some years and I know EVERYTHING there is to know about Jury Service and exactly how it works. The HCMS send all the forms you need. All the Terms and Conditions are set out in those forms.

What's the point in applying for a deferral ? As you say, it can only be done once, so they might just call upon you again when you've got something else 'important' planned in the future. Tough shit then, isn't it, because you can't refuse again. So, you just might as well get it over and done with in the first place.

Yes, I could get my employers to write a letter stating why I cannot attend on those particular dates, just so as I could go to the NEC.

But...

Well, you should get the general picture by now Thumbs Up

I'd only end up doing Jury Service another day Evil or Very Mad

A couple of years ago I was sent a summons for jury service and ignored it. Nothing happened. They're just trying to scare you into going. I wouldn't bother. It's a job for pensioners and people on the Dole.

Rather than a middle-aged, up-standing, honest member of our Society who want's to see Justice done in an honourable manner.

Well. Thanks for nothing Middle Finger
