BDB is all well and good, been there a couple times. Thing is unless Michael Fish personally guarantees 4 days of sunshine most BCF'ers start moaning about weather and "I haven't got any money/can't afford" about a week before it happens. Razz

I reckon campsite in Mid-Wales. I know a good one that costs fiver a night, is right on the sea front and allows open fires.

You think people are more likely to want to go to a beach that doesn't have bloody big marquees selling beer when it's wet Confused.

Quite possibly.

Folk will do BDB if they want to do BDB but I can see a BCF-only 'chill out and talk shit' weekend on a beach having an appeal for some members.

Even less fun when you've got to huddle up in someone else's tent or read a book on your in yours, or so I would have thought.

I'm sure people are aware you don't /have/ to go and see the other attractions at bigger bike things.

I can see why you might want a BCF-only meet generally, but can also see more people being put off by it, if it's wet.

The weather is an uncontrollable factor and could easily make it miserable at any event, large or small. Lots of people huddling inside a huge tent is just as shit as a few huddling in a small one, imo.

If you're not going to see the 'attractions' at a bigger bike meet, what's the motivation for going? So you can be on a big campsite instead of a small one?

Why would it be wet anyway? I doubt anyone's stupid enough to try and arrange this for February, it'll be in the spring/summer so rain's more unlikely than likely, if it happens - deal with it.

From what I remember, Bulldog Bash is /allways/ wet at some point.

If you've seen it's going to be wet (which Maurice used as a reason why people don't go) I would sugges that people are more likely to be put off by camping in a field than camping in a field that has a bloody big marquee which sells beers adjacent.

Thus it's less likely to be made a miserable event if it's at the Bulldog Bash, thus people are less likely to not go.

Hardly anyone's gone to the Bulldog in recent years anyway. What makes you think they'd be arsed to go this time?

I suggest we walk away from this thread now, since I bet neither of us'll end up going anyway. Laughing

Not suggesting they will.
Suggesting less people would go to this meet at a campsite than bulldog bash, given similar weather forcast.
As each year such a meet has been suggested, yet no one has gone, I would suggest the evidence holds this out!

It's the principal, damnit and I'm just avoiding doing stuff I should be.

First BDB I went to I never saw rain, was boiling hot all weekend. The second BDB apparently had a heavy shower on the Thursday and some rain on Friday morning, though I never saw this as I arrived Friday night after work. Very sunny the rest of the weekend Cool

Dave G, scared of the rain.

Erm, if that was the second one I went to (when I had the big shleter) it rained on Sunday.

And, oi! Unlike poncey drag racers, I /do/ race in the rain (and was when BDB was on this year).

Ok you got me there, but it was a minor shower.

Let's face it, if it's an outdoor event in the UK there's a chance of rain at some point.

Spending £5 to sit in a wet field and get pissed is better than spending £45 to do the same for a lot of people...

Also, the idea of the annual BCF meet at BDB has pretty much been proved 'dead' judging by the last two year's efforts.

There are other bike rallies going on all year apart from BDB you know! Most weekend there is somewhere you can go to sit in a field & get pissed (or not, personal choice & all that) with numbers of like-minded people ranging from a hundred or so to several thousand. Average price for most of the rallies I go to is about £15 which usually gives you 2 nights camping plus daytime entertainment and bands/discos at night.

Mind you, a field in Wales sounds good to me! Especially the one Maurice is on about having seen the photos.

If people are going to the big rallies anyway it's always possible to meet up. I think what you're describing here sounds a bit more "personal" though.

I'd be up for it as long as it was a weekend I'm not already doing something.

I like bulldog for the drag racing Smile.

However, invading a smaller ralley could make more sense as a half and half measure.
Hmm, think insane mcc have a rally - they've got a broader range of bikes than most clubs I've seen.

If you want to see drag racing, and have a go at RWYB, how about going down to the 'Pod for next year's Speedfreaks Ball and having a meet there? It's usually the first weekend in May or thereabouts.

That's a show that's growing each year and getting better, but it hasn't quite reached the epic proportions of the Bulldog yet.

My only gripe this year (apart from the wind chucking someone's gazebo/bbq at my car! Rolling Eyes ) was that there were no portaloos on the campsite. Oh, and I had to watch Saxon again!

Do they have RWYB there as well?

How big is the queue, etc?

Didn't get that many goes when we did RWYB on a cold Feburary 'normal' day there, a couple of years ago.

RWYB at Speedfreaks last year was £10 per day for unlimited runs, and the queue wasn't huge. I think a lot of people were put off last year cos it was so windy though!

The RWYB kind of fits around the other stuff, there is usually some competition drag bike racing and some exhibition racing as well as bloody Fireforce (again - getting sick of them now! Rolling Eyes ) and other thrust-powered maniacs, and stunt shows.

They haven't updated the website for next year yet (www.speedfreaksball.co.uk) so no dates or details available but keep an eye out for when they do. It can be a damn good weekend!
