I've just come downstairs as I couldn't get to sleep due to hearing imaginary noises outside. This happens quite a lot. Do other people get this kind of paranoia over their bikes being stolen? It's not even as if I'm in a dodgy area. Please tell me that you all suffer from the same paranoia and it's not just me going mad! ____________________ Honda CBR600RR - 2004 |

I used to be like that.
When my bedroom window was located just above my bike (chained to a lampost outside) and was always getting up in the middle of the night when you hear drunks faffing about.
Now, out of sight, out of mind. Got an alarm for raising my attention anyways. |

I feel your pain mate, I have to park on a main road, guaranteed every 5 minutes the thought'll cross my mind. Just try to forget about it, as long as you've done all you can (within reason) then you should be happy. If they're gonna get it, then they're gonna get it no matter what you do (apart from sleep with it) |

Thats what insurance is for! Fcuk it, My bike is right under my window, I'm a light sleeper but I stay in the sticks. Its chained and alarmed and I'm sure if the locals know me, any sign of someone attempting to steal it will end it certain death!
Sleep and forget about it, it can be replaced. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

Theft insurance is not all it is cracked up to be.
In my experience it is the nights when you CAN'T hear stuff clanking about that your bike is most likely to grow legs and walk. ie, windy and rainy. Thieves wait for these nights so they can work undisturbed. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I can understand how you feel. Just after I got my beamer I got up one morning and it had been paint sprayed all down one side. It was on the driveway and its not the sort of thing that you expect over here on the Island. I was gutted, I nearly cried, it was my new baby and I was out for blood. Reported it to police for what good it done, they were never caught. I felt back then it was simply a case of jealousy, it was something that they could not have so why should I.
Since then we installed CCTV, its a pretty good set up, just leave it on and it auto records when someone is out there straight to the video and at around £100 is a good investment.
Although its pretty safe here we would never dream of leaving hubbys bike out the front over night although its has been left on the rare occassion round the back but its so damm heavy it would take a lot of strength to run off down the road with it, it amazes me how these things stay upright!
It sounds like you guys over on the mainland have it much worse and I dont blame you for being paranoid, its your pride and joy and why should someone be allowed to just walk in and take it |

Yep, I used to be like this all the time when I lived in London, as my bike was parked in my parking space and not locked to anything. Turns out I was right as one night some twat came along and pushed it over. Didn't get out in time to see them though I don't do it now as it's locked up in the back garden with an alarm, and it would take a theif about 10 minutes to manouvere it out of the gate so they would have to be a bit of a dumbass to even attempt it.
I'd say if you are worrying about it like this, try and put some more security on it, as much as you possibly can. |
