Right, unfortunatly, my NSR aa breakdown cover cant be moved to a different bike, which sucks.

Who you with? How much they cost? And have you ever used them, and if so are they any good?

/me plans on paying as little as possible Razz

Personally... I'd stick with the AA/RAC

I had cover from BikeGuard I think it was last year - on a special deal with Bennets cos I took it out with my insurance. £40 odd quid, inc. European cover... great I thought.

Until I needed my bike picked up and they said 'oh how far does it need to go cos there's a charge if it's more than ten miles'. And it took them 3 hours to arrive. Good thing I didn't breakdown halfway to Italy innit.

The other day when Kev dumped his Gixer and the AA turned up in about 20 mins my mind was made up.

Hi

Put it this way, with a 4 hour wait for the RAC I am not in a hurry to go back to them Evil or Very Mad . From what I have heard it isnt that unusual at the moment either, as we have a relative who also had the RAC "forget" that he had called them.

We are now with Direct Line

All the best

If you dont want to sign up with a breakdown company, then put this number in your phone and they will service or give you breakdown recovery services if you happen to break down in the london area (only)

Don't the AA claim off your insurance? Therefore losing your NCB?

Hmmmm....

I did a major ring around of quite a few of the main recovery people last autumn. I actually found that (the minimum cover) with all the big companies (including AA and the RAC), all stated that they would only recover for a maximum of 10miles, or to the nearest garage.
You had to take out the whole full cover £90ish, to get home recovery.

Although, i did find one company that were cheap and had an 'unlimited' recovery distance. (Confused)
But, by judging the atttitudes of the people i spoke to when i asked about maximum recovery distance, the majority were all very stuttery and unsure. So i have a feeling its a bit of a grey area, and not 100% set in stone.

I'll dig out all the info i found again, and try to post it up later in the week.

They will claim off your insurance if the recovery is the result of an accident. You can pay for the recovery instead so you dont loose your ncb.

No claim though if it is just a breakdown

Direct Line are the same

All the best

Go with the AA, I've got AA relay and when my car got nicked last year and left the other side of Birmingham they towed it home for me (I live in Nottinghamshire) without charge!

I didn't even have to go and find it, the coppers found it and the AA
picked it up and dropped it back for me that same day.

Don't know what they're like with bikes though Confused but aren't you the member not the car(bike)? Smile

The recovery I got with my zx6 insurance (£25 extra, from telebikes) has been really good for me, recovering me after my wheelie accident (south of London to Reading) and from the Bulldog bash (dead clutch) with as well as for punctures etc, with no extra charges.

These were quoted to me at the end of last year, so they should be fairly valid still now...

AA (0800 444999)
......£39 Basic vehical cover
......£43 Person cover with homestart*
(although i think the homestart bit was an special offer at the time)
......£82 Full relay cover

RAC (0800 550550)
.....£38 Basic cover, with a maximum 10mile recovery radius distance

Angel (0500 372373) (!)...Confused Who thinks of these names...!!
.....£28.50 Roadside (10miles max recoevry/or to the nearest garage)
.....£51.50 Full recovery to where ever

BikeAssist (0800 9173365)

.....£30 Full recovery to home/garage Very Happy
.....£45 recovery plus homestart

I went with BikeAssist in the end, but thats only coz i want it cheap!
And i spend so much time travelling here-there-&-everywhere, a limit of 10 miles recovery range would be totally useless.

I dont think they would charge.
As when G called out his recovery company when he over-wheelied his bike, they did seem very not bothered to the reason for the recovery.

Anyway....If all fails...
...Just phone the recovery people up, and appear dumb...
...."hmmm..my bike wont start... i dont know why"...
....and forget the fact that you have just ploughed it into a car or whatever. Smile
Once the recovery vehical is there, i cant see these little independent companies being too bothered about why they were called out.

Oh ok.
But as i said. Depends on your defination of 'crash'...
I define 'crash' to mean... 'accidental breakdown of parts' Razz
Certain parts will have broken down... into little bits! Very Happy

Its all about selective word choice! Very Happy

But there again, i can get away quite easily with doing the dumb blonde routine to the recovery man!
You may have a little more difficulty with that! Confused
