Probably a blocked jet in the carb, running out of petrol drags all the crap from the bottom of the tank through the carbs blocking the jets.

What are you getting out the exhaust? Any pops? Weird smoke?
It could be a problem in your electrics, but i doubt it. Also could be a sign of the choke being jammed on, check that the lever moves freely.

It sounds to me like you've got a load of crap stuck in there anyway, it would be more likely than those given that you ran it dry. Happens to the best of us, it won't be an expensive fix if you have to take it to the mechanics.

Remove the jets from the carb and blow them though (reverse flow) with an airline normally clears them.

Is it this Redex stuff by any chance?

Put some in my bike before, started it up and let it idle for a bit the gave it a few revs and all this black smoke came out and then it ran better Thumbs Up.
