Dumb F**king Luck

On the way to work this morning, just joining a dual carriageway section (it has a 40mph limit so not nailing it or anything) and I hit a patch of diesel. When I say patch, I mean something thats about 10m long and covers the entire width of lane 1. The back end of the bike starts coming out to the left, not far, maybe 15 degrees (SWAG). Then everything hits tarmac again and I'm thrust violently to the left, come out of my seat a little way (I'm heavy so not far ) and then somehow end up back in my seat.

Admittedly it all happened rather quickly, but I don't really remember doing anything specific to ensure I stayed RSD. So...I'm off out to buy a lotto ticket as now I'm feeling lucky. (I'm also off out to buy some new pants!)

It was wierd, I just carried on riding as if nothing had happened. Then I got to work, sat down and thought f*********************k.

Then I read some of the funny BCF posts, some offtopic stuff, and thought I'd share my change of underwear with people (no, I won't be posting pictures )

Glad to hear you kept it up mate, scary experience huh! I've had a few myself but luckily never really had a big enough one to have dropped the bike.

There's a roundabout near me as you come off the A13 going towards Lakeside, and literally the entire way round it is covered in diesel. When it's wet you have to take such a dodgy line just to try and stay away from it. Been there months now and no-one's done anything about it (and yes I have told my council).

on the way home from uni today, i never had a near msis also. was doing 40 ish admittedly in a 40 when there was slow moving traffic on the left hand lane. then this big truck just turned onto my lane with out any indication and i had 10 metres to stop. i said oh fuck out loud, but luckily the fucker stopped with half a metre to spare for me to fit through (there are islands or w/e you call it on the right so i realy didn't wanna go on that lol). the emergency braking made me lock up and the bike was shaking badly, but i made it. anwyay, lesson learnt. i really thought i was gonna hit it so i am really chuffed.
i've never had a diesel moment yet, and i hope i don't. i'm cautious at petrol stations and on rainy days though.

I suspect that part of your 'dumb luck' was that you just kept going. A lot of times riders get a quick twitch from some diesel, panic brake or steer and down they go. I admit that if you are leaned over going round a corner then the chances are you will come off anywayway but it is possible to keep it sunny side up sometimes, well done...

I agree with tintin, there's plenty of times i've had my back end out, and simply been too tired at 6am on a saturday to react to it, but in the end it just sorts itself out. I hope none of your 6lbs of chocolate fun went on your bike, i'm sure it would harm the resale value...

I think my biggest effect on resale value is dumping miles on it rather than just dumping on it

Seen the flowers and Teddys for her this morning coming back from the hospital. Im sure its 30 mph down there before St Pete's way which is 50! but A666 whatever part your on is not the safest of roads in Bolton.

Poor girl, heart goes out to her family. Probably some drugged up chav pratt in his kitted up cage of a corsa.
