Restriction

The restricted bikes is pure $hit - when my ped was restricted it was done all on the exhaust! from 8hp to 2,5hp(!)
i have derestricted it, but it's illegal. i can see the point in restriction but it's done in a wrong way, it takes all the power.
you can, of course derestrict it and buy a rev restrictor(wich i have), but it doesn't gain power until high rpm's. wich means you actually get less power than with the exhaust restriction.
the restriction should be electronic when the bike reaches 30 miles. that way you still have the power, but not the speed.

what is your opinion?

My opinion is you should just "play the game" until you've passed your test.

Scooters shouldn't be restricted to moped specification for 16 year olds - it's too dangerous to ride a restricted scooter. But by the same token, more chavs will die...

I see no downside to derestricted scooters...

But not everybody does. Fair play 30mph is dangerous, especially with people getting forced into gutters and suchlike. However, I think that the emphasis needs to be on a more in depth CBT or something similar, not just changing the law so you can ride a bike that does 55mph. A CBT is not enough to let a total novice ride a bike at 55mph. I work in the bike trade and some of the muppets you see on scooters is unbelievable.

Yes but can you see where I am coming from. How do you distinguish who is going to ride safely and who isn't. Probably one in ten muppets will actually ride like a muppet on the CBT. The rest just grin and bear it, do what's needed then go and act like a nobhead on the roads. So we're no better off are we?

I dont think the restrictions really help. I suppose it might be a good thing for the few sensible people that use a restrcited bike, who 'might not' have the experiance to ride faster safely. I know I dont feel safe at fast speeds on my 125 after a days CBT, but I would like to think im sensible enough not to push myself or be an arse

Makes me sick when I see the fools round here on de-restricted peds, infact anything with a small 2t engine (go-peds, minimotos etc). I allmost got run over the other day walking to the local shop by 2 chavtastic fools 2up on a 50cc ped with no helmets doing well over 30

On the bright side they wont be around long if they carry on doing that.
