I cant believe how cheap a bike is to run, dont even bother with a car if your income is tight. I just sold my Beamer, cleared the debt and brought a 125 (I'm a learner at present) and could not believe how little it is. £15 a year road tax, approx £12 to fill up tank and £14 a month fully comp insurance in my own name, on L plates and only a year old bike. Would of been cheaper than that but wanted to put the hubby on it to incase he ever fancied a change from his monster!
I have noticed since been riding pillion how many people are going over to motorbikes because of the cheapness and convenience of them, although I do worry that if the government get wise they will stamp up our expenses, the tossers!

My First Car

Rover 213 £275 (already taxed & tested)
Insurance £550 (was on my mothers policy)

First Bike

Cagiva Planet 125 £250
Cost to get it road worthy £300 (parts, tax, MOT etc.)
Insurance £330
Kit, textile trousers £50 (helmet, jacket, gloves were hand me downs from my dad)
CBT £90

Both vehicles were done on the cheap so to speak, both were insured TPF&T.
The car used about double the amount of petrol compared to the bike. But then I never used to drive the car for fun like I do with the bike.
Car licence cost about £300, DAS would probably cost the same if not more.

It's hard to compare total running costs exactly, but in my opinion the difference is negligible in the short term, ie a couple of years.

Never was a fan of peds either, would rather ride my pushbike, which funnily enough was my most expensive mode of transport at £700. Smile

Anybody who can actually read can understand what that says... Stop being twats.

Smiffy, it depends how much money you have to spend... "Too much to run" is a pretty relative term. Yes, it's going to cost you quite a bit of money, more than the bus for a month that's for sure.

I don't agree. Question
I think that the content of the original post is like a poorly written text message, and not what is expected of a chat forum. (for grown ups) Rolling Eyes

(unless Smiffy typed his post on a 'phone, and he is illiterate, then all is forgiven)

For what it's worth, the original post is just plain lazy, and ignorant. Why condone it? Idea

i think a moped shd be cheap to run as long as it doesnt break down and need fixing

it will probably be quicker and cheaper than the bus on running expenses like petrol and oil, but there is the cost of buying it in the first place, so it may take a while to pay for itself.

I wish i had got one when i was young tho as i relied on buses and pushbikes for years.

Nothing to do with Karma, Good or bad karma is no problem to me. I post what I think, not what others want to hear. If Smiffy had taken a couple of minutes to check his post he would have all the answers he wanted. Most people would have looked at it and just couldn't be bothered to read it due to it being awkward to read.

Taken from " Rules and Guidelines "

"Thou Shalt Learn to Spell
Your writings here are your representation of yourself. If you come across as an illiterate seven year old, you will be treated as one. Please take the time to spell check and proof read your posts, there's no rush. "

Not rocket science is it realy? Rolling Eyes

Yes it aint pretty or in keeping with forum guidlines, but I didn't have a problem reading it, maybe it's a generation thing.

I agree with Tobyr, I don't see the point in everyone having a pop at him and posting snide comments. Thumbs Down
