Bought meeself a wreck to keep me amused for the winter...
An ANCIENT CBR6 (1987) Soon to be a classic and excempt from tax! Cool

https://www.kingsway-laundry.co.uk/temp/LHS.jpg

Currently a non-runner but hey, its a Honda... can't be much wrong with it, can it? Rolling Eyes

But has anyone seen an exhaust system like this one before?
https://www.kingsway-laundry.co.uk/temp/BR.JPG

Is it totally home-made? It says "Fresco Big-one" on the top.
Don't fresco just do exhausts for offroad bikes? Shocked

And that tail unit? Whats that from? Confused

Haven't started it (yet) as only just got it and battery is flat, etc...
But won't long (I hope).

Wish me luck and I'm open to suggestions (CHEAP suggestions) on making the thing better...

Cheers Very Happy

Few more pics...

Like that exhaust system. Shocked Very Happy Thumbs Up

Only thing I'd look to do is get the wheels polished or at elast rid of the white paint.

I'd bung a more modern rear end on and get it painted black - job done, assuming it's running ok. Thumbs Up Maybe a smaller frontend like this too.

So how much did it set you back?

Finished? Shocked Cheers but nah, loads to do... I quite like the black engine, was actually thinking about maybe having the WHOLE BIKE black..

Yeah - the seat unit does look dated doesn't it! Still dunno what it is but it sure doesn;t help the look. I've had that light unit on a supermoto I used to have and the bulbs were so weak. The current unit (although ugly) seems really bright with the projector beam.

Thanks for that! Wink Yeah I know... eBay is an addiction of mine so my paypal account will be taking a pounding soon I'm sure..

The seat unit appears to be from either an RGV250 or a GSXR400. Model choice may be wrong but definately looks like a Suzi.

Thats pretty cool, and I normally don't like streetfighters.

I'd just get it going, put it back together, and ride it. May find it needs money spent on consumables first.

Its not soon to be tax exempt though - the exemption is for vehicles registered in or before 1973, the 25 year rolling exemption stopped when labour came into power.

Classic insurance soon though.

That tail unit is a mystery. I don't think it is a GSXR400 - the very end looks far too slim.

Confused

For some reason, I quite like this bike....

Top pic looks quite good! Then you take the seat unit off and think WTF Shocked Laughing

No idea on the seat unit but I think a VFR rear end or duke rear end would suit it, and polished rims, like what already been said! Thumbs Up

Where have you found it'll be tax exempt?

My mate as a 1979 Z1000R streetfighter, he just missed out on the tax exempt bikes, and seems to think it'll never be, it has to be made before 1975 I think!

Looks good!

Just needs a damn good strip down and a clean.

I had to look closely to see if it was the before or after pictures.

I like it!
£200 is a bargain, just get it running sweet and sell it on eBay for a grand!

Cheers everyone. Cool

Yeah I was thinking that seat unit may come from an RGV or similar Suzi... Its those vents on the side ain't it!
But I agree somein more modern would look better. A 916 style would look great but getting a bit common now.

Starting to think I got it wrong 'bout the exemption. Embarassed
I checked before on google and found some website saying a 21 year old bike could get classic insurance AND be road tax exempt.
I'll be buggered if I can find that site again though! Mad
Still, classic insurance should cost less. Smile

Hopefully I'll persuade the thing to start tomorrow and we'll see just how it sounds.
Looking at the 'silencer' maybe I should warn the neighbours first? Razz

Hiya. Could be a blade indeed - I think they did have them vents.
As for MOT - was thinking about getting one of them small BS'somein' plates that you rivot on to make it 'legal'.
And for quietening it... I'll just shove a dead squirrel up the pipes just before the test. Should deaded the noise somewhat! Wink

Yeah, I know the one... they DO have that bloody wide seat unit.
More investigation required I think. I feel a google image search coming on...

Doesn't look like a TZR250 3XV one to me.

When you fire it up, get a sound clip, I think it'll be slightly scary.

Right - Mystery solved.
A bit of digging on bikepics.com and I've found the model that seat unit comes from....
A 1993 Suzuki RGV 250!

Reuben gets the prize! Thumbs Up
