FAO anyone who has done a winter project/bike restoration

Wotcha,

Me and a mate at uni want to learn more about how bikes (maintenance etc), so we thought it might be a good idea to in the spring find some shed of a 125 and take it apart and put it back together again(hopefully repairing it in the process) in a bid to find out how the damn things work Shocked

Why the spring? Well its because were living on campus, we have no garage or anything to store it, yet we can get some open air space to leave the bike in. So, it cant be terrible winter weather because the bike will probably disolve being left out all winter Razz

Is this a stupid idea? Will the large amont of rain in spring cause just as many problems as winter weather? Is it stupid to attempt this without a garage or private garden?

Just shove a decent cover over it and it will be fine for winter. Loads of people keep nice bikes worth a few grand outside in all weathers.

Either that or take it to bits and rebuild it in your room and make sure no one grasses you up, thats what i'd do.

Yeah, build it in your room like every other student does.

Just remember that they can be tricky to ride back down the stairs (I would advise putting it in gear and using the clutch as a brake to ease it down)

yeah i say rebuild in your room then you get to ride it out Cool

best bet would be to do it indoors but with a decent cover and keep the parts that you take off safe i don't see why not.
