Just incase no one saw this on TV, here is the video. I recorded it and hosted it on Rapidshare (I know they're not the best hosting but its free!)

https://rapidshare.de/files/6764420/racecha5.mpg.html About 44MB

Cool vid!

I was dying to see this from the other thread where everyone was banging on about it so thanks for sharing Thumbs Up.

He he, you gotta love rapidshare for forgetting to put download speed restrictors on their downloads for non-paying customers!

very cool vid!!! Thumbs Up

What I want to know is why the K5 wasn't quicker!!!???

I've got the vid where they race a 999 ducati agains a lambo and the bike sets a time of 49.2. In this the K5 does a 49.1!!!! .1 of a second quicker than a 999??? I think not!!! the 999 is a bog standard one too, not even an R model!!!

Typical car programme!!! Thumbs Down

And if it actually lets you download. When I got there it said I'd already downloaded a load of stuff (not used it in weeks) so couldn't have a copy. Had to fiddle around with a proxy just to get the thing. Thumbs Down

It's a relatively tight twisty track isn't it? I guess it's down to not being able to use the massive power that the K5's got. Maybe a 600 would have won if been used? Just guessing mind....maybe they should test a 636 against a similar kit car?

On that sort of track a supermoto with longer gearing might have been a better bet. The car is always likely to win on tracks like that due to the ability to carry sheer corner speed compared to the tiny contact patches on the bike.

Doubt it - the 1000 doesn't really lose out on much to the 600 - it might have meant slightly less wheelies, but I got the impression there was a bit of showboating there.

Would have to be getting a lot narrower before a Supermoto would have had a chance there. Supermotos are good because they can go off road as well, you don't see supermotos winning supermono races even at twisty normal tracks for a reason.

A fairer test would have been to allow a crescent prepped bike to compete, but then you're talkign a fair bit of money.

The car is able to carry the brakes much later in to the corner.

In the comentary afterwards they said that the bike won the 'moral victory' because it was actually more practical than the car and cost a third less. And that it wasn't really fair to compare a tuned car sold pretty much purely for the track with a standard road bike.
Well balanced review in my opinion.

A fully race prepped 400cc at a guess?
As oppposed to a stock bike that I think was on stock road settings.

Just watched this and wow - you can really see he's utterly in tune with the bike. Control looks effortless, bar the massive power delivery Smile

One day I hope to ride like that.

I was really pissed off I couldn't see it when it was on, my crappy tv in my uni halls can't get channel 5. For some reason I also get the welsh regional versions of itv and bbc, pretty weird seeing as I'm in lancaster Confused
