I've not ridden my NSR for a while (couple of months) due to me getting another bike. Anyway, took it out for a spin on Thursday because of the Indian summer and noticed that occasionally when I change down a gear it makes a funny clunk noise, kind of like metal hitting metal, I guess it's more of of a ping noise than a clunk. Any ideas what it might be?

Check the drivechain freeplay, it may be too much which would make it abit clunky, ot a lack of oil on the chain or in the gearbox.
Does it leak oil form anywhere, i know mine does! Mad

I agree check the chain, and make sure there are not any stiff links, this is likely to ba a problem if your bike has been stood for a while, just as you stated. Thumbs Up

think you might be onto something there. I've had several people say that the chain looks really loose on my NSR. Not sure why that would cause a noise though, is the chain just hitting something metal. I'll check out the chain soon, cheers Thumbs Up

If it's really loose it can even jump a cog on one of the sprockets, but the noise might just be the "pulling side" of the loose chain snapping tight, or even banging against the swinging arm or some other part of the bike.
