any help most graciously recieved.
symptoms:

1. won't start. its a kick start model so when i give it a kick the neutral light comes on. but vaguely. - but doesn't stay on.
it does'nt seem that far from starting...but doesn't.

2. the main light dims and gets brighter when i rev it.

3. it tends to die after awhile. which is interesting half way across roundabouts.

4. getting it strted is a mare. i'm not sure if the choke is in the right place/ for how long.
(i had a garage pick it up last week- rex judds - only for them to say that there was nothing wrong with the bike - cost me 40 quid. gah.)

please help. i want to scoot around on it, do my DAS, and get a sexy beast.

cheers

Your battery is (and this is the technical word) fucked. Well, thats the most likely thing by far. If the battery is OK then it isnt getting charged at all. Its difficult to start because the only power the ignition circuit is getting is from the alternator when you kick it. If you try push/bump starting it you will probably find it starts OK. I did this on my GS for about a month 'cos I couldnt afford a new battery. With a charged battery they start quite happily with even a half-hearted kick. The choke is something you have to experiment with, mine started with the choke half on, which was difficult when the only positions were on and off!

That sounds like a blocked carb jet or the carb set up wrong. A carb stripdown might be in order. This isnt too hard to do. I had the same sort of thing on my GS125 when I first got it. Try to get a worshop manual to give you some sort of idea.
