Another NSR bites the dust.....along with me on it

I am in the right lane of a dual carrageway. Car is in left lane of dual carrageway. Just as I am passing, (doing 30mph I might add in town) the car decides to turn right "WHILE" putting on his indicator.
The NSR is screwed and I have a fractured arm and some nasty ass bruising and grazes.

It's a big shame, it's kinda put me off bikes and I was just about to sell it and get an upgrade to that lovely R6. I have decided to be a bit safer and get an mark 4 Astra. I think I may take up riding again when I have a house and garage of my own so I can choose to only take the Bike out on nice Sunday afternoons as opposed to having to ride it everywhere in the cold and wet.

Just one last thing, "DON'T EVER TRUST CARS, MOST OF THE DRIVERS HAVEN'T GOT A FUCKING CLUE"

claim for...

damage to bike
injuries
whip lash (always a good one)
damage to clothes/helmet etc
and as my mother did when her car was written off, damage to her glases


People randomely change lanes without checking their blind spots round here, I accept it as everyday life... you learn to anticipate drivers moves i find. Best give away is their road position and when your behind you can often see them in there mirror, are they old/young/asleep/on the phone... and whats more do they check their miror

Take a break from riding - it'll make you realise how much you miss it

Don't get put off biking - I've had more potential incidences with other drivers (their fault of course) whilst driving than riding, and I've just become a more vigilant and defensive motorist in general.

It's not specifically a "car driver" problem - these people could be operating any kind machinery (or supermarket trolley) and still cause accidents...basically, there are just far too many potential killers out there

went out for a ride today (managed to get a tiny scrape on the lower part of my fairing on an alley in the west end. lovely mixture of piss and oil ). cars are bastards, but im sure everyone in london will agree...buses and taxis are worse
hope u get better soon mate. and remember, bike riders are friendly, car owners dont get together for sunday drives

Unlucky man. Hope your OK. I assume the other driver admitted fault? Did you get any other cars from there as witnesses?

You should eventually get the money for the NSR from them, which can then go on a lurrrrvley R6.

Might be worth talking to a few legal type people if you wanna get compensation from them and all. I wonder if there is such a claim as say "being put off biking"

Sorry to hear about it Iain, but for gods sake don't let an accidet that wasn't your fault put you off riding (I seem to be saying this alot at the moment ). It was obviously not you fault as you were riding within the law and the car driver didn't look - driving without due care in the eyes on the law.
I hope you got witnesses, and that you didn't admit liability.
Let's all hope that you get it sorted quickly and you recover from your injuries before the really nice weather comes along, because you will miss your bike then.

Once i had that crash.
I was smashing my head against walls wishing i could go out on it.

i couldnt believe how much i actually missed riding and how much i took it for granteed.

even if i would have crashed and the bike was a right off i would have stole Dodds GN250 (ok buy) lol.
and used that.

kinda look funny on that in blue leathers though, lol.

but i would have still carried on riding...

trust me on this one, get both! with three grand i bought a fiesta and a goose(altho they arent highly desireable they do the job) wenever a bike passes you in traffic youll want one. my goose cost me £1150 to buy and insure for a year, the car £1000 to buy and i havnt completely paid it off altho i shud of!.

you could claim enough money off their insurance to set you up nicely with an R6.

a bloke here at work was in a car accident at 30mph, he got 2 broken ribs.

admitedly it took time, 6 months, but he got £838 compensation from the other drivers insurance. just over £400 a rib!!

you should claim however much to get your bike fixed, sell the NSR, claim for personal injury - then with all the money from that, get an R6!

people who drive cars and have never been on a bike have no idea about looking over their shoulder they dont think in terms of small vehicles just do a quick glance (sometimes) for a large box of metal!

Sorry to hear about the crash hope your ok.

when i had mine before christmas i broke my wrist (still healing) but it's Wweird one of my first thoughts was how long i'd have to suffer being off the road

Unless i have a really bad crash that makes me lose a limb or paralyses me in some way i dont think i'll ever stop riding bikes, it's just too much fun to give up.

Rather go out young with a grin on my face than old and wishing i'd done the things i'd wanted.

bit of bad luck mate, but i agree with everyone else, dont give up riding cuz of an accident (not that ive had one so i dont know how it feels) but cars are very usefull in the winter!!! and dont forget ITS SUMMER SOON (for about a week or two)

thanks for all the replies and support. For an injury claim, it has to affect me for more than 4 weeks, so the solicitor says. Perhaps I can wing it.

I know what you all mean by if you go and get a car and a bike passes while your in traffic, its going to make you want one again. Thing is, I will take it up again, just dont know when. When I'm on 90k a year and got nout else to do with the money

Insurance companies are arses, even if your leg has half fallen off in an accident, make damn sure you get witnesses on your side.

All I have to do now is sell this Astra thing and get back on 2 wheels.

you don't want to get a car, just because one stupid CAR driver has put you off bikes doesn't mean you have to be one of them just cause you feel safer in a tin cage. I think you are safer on bikes for some odd reason.

Because like, in a car you crash at high speeds a car will mangle around you and kill you probs, crash a bike at high speed you will probably go for a very long surf down the road, at least on a bike you have nothing to crush you or the steering wheel to be thrown against , or your head through the windscreen ( classic of my mum))

i'm only 17, and some would describe me as a soon to be nova driver, but i hate them cars.. lol

I always give way to people if they are having difficulty pulling out in a busy road etc.

The thing i love lately is getting the nod from most if not all riders on bikes since i got this NSR. On the ped i would get 2 nods a week lol.
