Should i attempt to de-restrict it myself or should i take it to a garage.

If anyone has a good step by step guide that would be AMAZIN!

Have you read the derestriction guide on the site?
I suggest you do.

For a good condition engine, expect an indicated 100-110, depending on conditions. Real speed probably about 10mph under that.

I've had 104mph out of mine.

May I suggest you use an oxy-setaline torch to get the restrictor from the exhaust, otherwise you'll be there all day and cost your self a fortune in fucked up drill bits. The torch will melt the welds first, as they melt at a lower temperature than the rest of the exhaust. Once the pipe is out use a reamer to clean everything up. Thumbs Up

I can understand if you're a little worried about taking a drill to your exchust, but at very least do the intake plate yourself as you'd be mad to pay someone to do it for you.

I definitely agree with NSRSparkie, the intake restriction takes about half an hour tops to remove and you don't wanna waste a lot of pounds for a garage to remove it for you. Do as the guide says, although it isn't necesssary to remove the plastic tray where the servo motor is located, just remove the tank, airbox, carb and inlet manifold. You will see a thin metal plate with a hole in the middle, take it out and throw it in the garbage.

The exhaust is a bit trickier, if you're not comfortable with using a drill, you could always use a torch if available.

Good luck m8, let us know how it goes Thumbs Up

No, save it, and putt it back when you come to sell the bike - it will keep the resale value up.

just notice that : over 9500 rpm , if you mixture is too lean you've got a big risk of a piston breaking down and very often the barrel will be damaged ! Embarassed

One hour to take out the intake restrictor??? Are you serious? If somebody spends an hour trying to remove the restrictor in an NSR, they should seek help. I don't get it, the carb is accessible in 5 minutes!!!

stuart , you are misleading the intake restrictor (which is a plate between carb and reeds) and the exhaust restrictor which is a chicane inside the exhaust system . the intake plate is quite simple to take off (not 1/2 h as said oreoxx especially for a begineer) , but the exhaust is much harder , this is why i recommand to replace the genuine exhaust system by a jollymoto race system (£205-245 depense on which can) . if it's a french import (as you said) you need to cut the exhaust where the chicane is , take the chicane off , and re-solder the 2 bits as they were before . you must use only oxy-acethylen torch , electric ark will not work . if you want details on how to do it , just pm me

No need to cut the exhaust when I done mine. Drill out the welds and take the restrictor out. Simple. Thumbs Up

hey , guys
if he has a french import , the restrictor is not at the exhaust entry , it's about 8-9" down in the pipe . we introduce a steel wire inside to mesure exactly the length . we report outside , make some marks , then cut it down . after taking off the chicane , we re-solder the 2 bits !

Best thing to do is to take the exhaust off and have a look. Wink

PostPosted: 11:55 - 31 Oct 2005    Post subject: intake one way bolts/crews Reply with quote

hi, i found this and the nsr site when i was looking for information to derestrict my sisters '04 nsr125
took the exhaust of and drilled the welds, okay and a bit of hammer and chisel action lol.
stage one complete, going well i though to myself, it'll be un-restricted by the time she gets home. Razz
next, i took the carb off only to fine that there were two one way screws at the bottom that i can get off with grips (because of the position/lack of room)

has anybody else had this problem?
any ideas on how to get em out?
i phoned honda and they said they dont give out information and they dont de-restric bikes either.

any help would be great! i dont want to have to either take the engine out so i can use grips, or hacksaw the heads off then use grip. Crying or Very sad

Photo Question

No one way screws I can think of.

If they are meant to come off you'll be able to get a security bit from somewhere Thumbs Up

Yep, I had exactly this problem, and its a bitch. What I ended up doing was cutting a notch in the thick side of the bolt head using a Dremmel, and knocked it round using a long screwdriver in the notch and a hammer. The first bolt took two months of head scratching, thinking and general swearing before coming up with the above plan. The second bolt took about 10 mins Very Happy

Due to the design, you really cant undo them using a tool. Like I said ^^^^^ they are a real bitch. Sad Easy enough with the technique I finally figured out though. Thumbs Up
