Winter plugs

Morning!

In the Haynes manual for my GS500e, it recommends that I use DPR8EA-9 plugs for normal riding, and DPR7EA-9 for cold climate (less than 5 degrees). Now the morning are starting to get colder, but still haven't quite got down to 5 degrees.

I've got a couple of questions about this:

1) What is the difference between the plugs? ie why is one better suited for cold climates

2) If I put the 7EA-9 in now even though the temperature in the mornings is nearer 10 degrees, will that harm my bike at all?

Hi,

The 7, and 8 designation refers to the heat of the spark plug, so if you put a 7 in, you're putting a hotter plug in.

(1 is nuclear, 10 is cold as haagen daaz)

Not sure if you'll harm your engine using them now, shouldn't think so, but best to wait for an expert reply.

As a side note, they're the same ones I use in my CG125.

i've never changed the plugs on any of my bikes nor cars because it's got a "bit cold out"....

if I was living in scandinavia, or somewhere that gets REALLY cold, i might think about it.. but not in this country.

lived in scotland most of my life, and have been in some VERY cold conditions in the highlands, and never had a problem with stock plugs.

Cheers for those replies. Guess I'll just leave the current plugs in for now since I haven't had any problems with them.

Its never that cold in newcastle.

Allthough if it was might get rid of a few geordies...cant be a bad thing.

it might help if it's constanly cold, but if you don't have any problems i suggest you to keep the plugs.
