Bendy, how do you know it wasn't the truck-driver's fault? And if creaming somebody on a bike where it wasn't his fault is going to ruin the rest of his life I'd suggest he needs to find one first.

I can only go with the information I've been given. Biker was on the wrong side of the road and went head on into the truck. Just what do you propose truckie was going to do about that?

You might be the kind of person who could analyze it, see it wasn't your fault and move on, but I would say that puts you in a minority. I know enough people who've been completely blameless in situations from death up to light injury and they've had trouble dealing with the 'guilt' for years.

Trauma manifests itself in a lot of ways, everyone is different.

Okay, maybe the biker was going to fast towards an oncoming lorry, which he should not have done, but shourley you must still feel sorry for his family etc.

Some peolpe on here have forgotten about the effects this has had on the truck driver, which IMO must be quite horrific.

Just because this is a motorbike site, doesnt mean we dont need to respect other vehicle drivers

No, obviously, but if you've checked his airway and found it chocka with now't but bubbling blood what are you going to do? Wave his tongue around like a trophy and mouth-to-mouth the blood straight into his lungs? The guy's blue in the face...check for a swallowed tongue first, then a crushed larynx. If both are ok, but there's no blood either, give it up (apart from the obligatory CPR). If both are ok, but his throats full of blood, what's to lose by sticking in a tube of some kind? It all comes down to balancing percentages.

All of which reinforces my point. Without even basic 1st aid training, all you can do is stand and watch.

I got more stirred up by Joe's account of how the tosser who trashed his bike wasn't insured. Or James with his smashed pelvis.

Etc.

agree, i care as its sad and for some people this is the worst day of there life. but i don't know them so i can't connect fully with the incident.
as for joes accident i care loads as it is someone i know and i was there and feel very angry that a friend has been put in a shit position.
pm me we have talking to do!

This one guy saved this womens life at the roadside with CPR but cracked two of her ribs ,she took him to court for thousands of pounds and won

St Johns Ambulance recommend all first aiders are insured against lawsuits !

that is crazy, as im a lifegaurd i had to do a 30 hour course including test and when proforming CPR we were tought that breaking a few ribs is normal, that why you dont do it on a real person for practise!

if you dont (although breakingh rib breaking is not essential) you may not be doing it hard enough, However you can do it without breaking ribs but in the heat of the moment i would chose breaking ribs any day over letting someone die.

if i woke up with 3 broken ribs and the nurse show me the person the broke them proforming CPR id shake their hand!

The biker's dead, so he's got nothing to worry about. His family, the driver of the truck and anyone who's witnessed it will have to deal with it for the rest of their lives.

I don't for a second believe the majority of people can shrug something off like that.

The problem with first aid courses is that because you rarely get to use it, within a month you've forgotten a lot of important information. I do a week long course every year (last one done in April this year) and although i probably still know enough to know what to do i wouldn't be 100% sure. And, as mentioned above, you can be sued for even trying to help so you've got to be damn sure you are doing the right thing before you do anything.

I wouldn't but you never know who you are dealing with. Aparantly it happens more than you'd think. In fact on the first aid course they tell you not to help unless it is absolutly neccesary or the person asks for help.

You can even be done for just giving them a couple of pain killers.

All the shit I've been through, and all I have to show for it is I dream about being in prison every night. Which is pukka, because I get to wake up every morning and realise I'm not.

Let's add counsel culture to ban culture. "Ooh, diddums, did you witness a chav half-inching a bar of Cadbury's? That's you signed-off with PTSD for the rest of your natural."

Death's as much a part of life as life itself, and we need to get some spine back (if the govt will let us) and recognize that fact. Death is good, it makes life taste sweeter (though it would help if the govt stopped pissing all over it).

So you chose to deal with your shitty experiences by becoming cold to all but your nearest and dearest. That's fair enough but it doesn't mean when others have a little empathy it's a bad thing, hell I can't see why it's anything other than a good thing. As you keep saying, there's plenty wrong with life in the UK today, so all the more reason to treat your fellow sufferers with something other than contempt, surely?

You can hardly equate stolen chocolate bars with watching another person's body bouncing off the front of your truck and landing, limp by the side of the road. You see that and you feel something, anyone does. After that point, people will vary. Counsel culture? More like simple humanity.

My view:

The biker could have been in the wrong, he might not have been. Either way a person has been killed and I fail to see how someone can ignore all feelings towards it. When I see threads and media articles about people getting killed or dying, it makes my heart sink to know another human has died. Maybe that's just me.

Condolences to the biker's family are in order, I think if I ever have a son and he is killed on the bike (touch wood), and a forum full of bikers offered condolences to me it would bring me some happiness. It's a simple gesture that can go a long long way.

Yes the truck driver's life will be changed, he will most probably have nightmares about the event and flashbacks etc. I know I would and you would be hard pushed to find anyone that wouldn't care if they just squashed and killed a another human. So my condolences to him and his family too, since they will have to live with it, it may mean job loss, we just don't know.

But in situations like this where we do not know the whole story I think it was pretty harsh what you said Bendy in the first comment, but the second made a good and valid point.

As for the people that sue after being brought back from the brink of the inevitable, it just shows the society we live in is pretty much based on greed, and that special human that saved another's life picked the wrong person to do it to. If someone saved my life but left me with a few (fixable) injuries, nay any injuries that leave me concious and able to continue in life normally, I personally would be forever in debt to that person. Fuck charging them thousands for the pleasure of doing so, and ruining their lives.

Death doesn't make life taste sweeter, infact the opposite could be said. And if it is your own death it makes life taste rather bland and earthy. Exceptions are probably for terrorists and evil people that deserve the punishment, and most of the time the natural karma system sorts those fuckers out.

The government is pissing all over life. But guess what? There's fuck all we can do about it, so we have to grin and bear it, get through life the best we can, and when the end inevitably comes, hope for it to be as quick, painless and unmessy as possible.

So condolences where applicable, take care riders of BCF, it can happen at anytime, just try to delay it by being as safe and sensible as possible.

Bit of a rant sorry. * Zips up flame proof suit *

Take care Karma

You know what happens to care and compassion Dom? You get older, recognize reality for the sick accident it truly is, and stop giving a fuck about anything that can't have a direct influence upon your own existence.

And let's be brutally honest, we only put care into the pot for the day when we might need some ourself. It's like a big existential insurance policy.

The thing is, being completely selfish and uncaring all of the time is hardly a viable option, unless you are happy to resign yourself to a lifetime of loneliness. You can tell all but friends and family to go fuck themselves, but you aren't going to have any mates in the first place if you are selfish and uncaring the whole time.

Our perception of the world is going to be shaped by our experiences - yours lead you to believe it's a sick accident. Frankly I'll be pissed off if I wind up thinking the same. Wink In the meantime, I'll choose to feel sorry for the poor bloke that started his day as a lorry driver and ended it a murderer.

Just reading through this post... I must make you sick, lmao

Emergency trachs are a very dodgy procedure, I would never feel comfortable doing one unless I was fully trained, you're effectively slitting someone's throat. Want to get sued? That would be the best way to do it. Rolling Eyes

In a nutshell it's bad all round, isn't it? The truck driver will have flashbacks and nightmares about it for years, for something that probably wasn't his fault, a rider lost his life becausehe made a mistake, and he's left a devastated family in his wake. Nothing good ever omes out of these things, except that they can teach us what happens when things go wrong, and how to avoid them.

i would consider this to be an RIP thread and if bendy and the likes want to argue about the other aspects of this tragedy they should take it to another post.
maybe for a second you ought to put yourselves in the position of one of the deceaseds family or friends who for all you know could be members of this forum and reread what you wrote.
i don't think the replys to the post would be what they'd be expecting.
a bit of common courtesy is all thats expected.

Rolling Eyes

Yet another random person is dead.

I agree with Bendy, I feel for the truck driver, it doesn't matter where he was in his lane he was driving legally and some guy going too fast decides to ride into him. How would you feel if you were minding your own business and someone went into you and died, I know for a fact even though it wasn't my fault I wouldn't feel right for quite a while.

Keep on trucking dude! Thumbs Up
