Well decided when i pass my test i want a supermoto!

Either raw to the core KTM or Nice and tame Honda fmx650

What others are there, pref between 400 & 600

It will be used mainly for city commuting through the good months and cbr 125 will be kept for winter months.

I wont be going on motorways! perhaps once or twice but not really.

They are completely different bikes so not really sure why you're considering both ends of the market.

Decide exactly type of bike you want and find a bike in that category.

High spec competition bike with high maintenance, low comfort and zero security like the KTM EXC's, Yam WR's etc

or

Lower maintenance, slower but more comfortable, less full on, streetmoto like the XR650, FMX, Yam XT660X, KTM Lc4 , duke 2.. etc

In my opinion a good all rounder would be a Suzuki DRZ400..

Does everything, not brilliantly, but capable at supermoto, road riding, commuting, off roading as well as being fairly reliable.

Oi! What about the MZs? Higher spec and a damned site cheaper than the honda/suzuki/yamaha street motos.

Especially bearing in mind "It will be used mainly for city commuting". Two big huge radiators to keep them cool and sufficient seat height to allow you to see over the top of everything (and the handlebars go over the top of car mirrors)

I wouldn't worry what other people think. When you have passed your test go and get a test rides on anything you like the look of and even those you dont like the look of. Find something your happy with and in your budget, don't end up buying something you may regret.

Second thoughts...SOD IT AND GET ONE OF THESE! Cool

From what I've seen the bikes that make good 'everyday' bikes aren't really that super, while the ones that are, being fairly highly strung, require lots of maitenance and aren't really very practical.

Providing you're not expecting much more than a trailie with road tyres and good brakes you're ok.

true, but i bet the little Rotax is alot more fun in that bike than in the RS125!

The best ever production supermoto just has to be the Yamaha TDR250! It's the original, the nuttiest, and therefore the best!

Has anyone seen the latest copy of Supermoto Magazine yet? The TDR featured in there is so classy and in perfect condition. If my finished KMX can look anything like that good i'll be over the moon!
