As some of you are aware now I have a honda cg125, 2004 plate. On it I dont have an emergency cut out switch and I can only start it when it is in neutral. On the older 125's that I did my CBT on, my hubbys bike and others that I know of you can start it even if it is in gear still. Is it normal do you know that a year old honda cg125 should not have this switch and not start if it is still in gear ? I would be grateful for your advice on this please.

Just seems wierd to me, my hubbys bike is brand new and he can start that in gear as are the older learner bikes that I did CBT on. The instructors thought it was well strange last wk when I told them, even with the clutch in it wont start in gear.
What about the emergency cut out switch, any ideas? I would of thought they had to be on all bikes for obvious reasons Confused

Nice bike, I looked at getting one of these as dont look like a 125 do they. Feel better re the starting if not in gear but will have to investigate re the shut off switch, thank you Thumbs Up

My hayabusa would start in gear, but you had to hold the clutch in to get it to start and have the stand up.

My R6 is the same.

Its just a bit of a pain, if its stalls and is in gear it literally gets stuck inbetween gears and wont start til I have rocked the bike back and forth a few times beating the gear peg at the same time to get it unstuck Sad Just wondered if this was a common fault of the CG125 maybe.
I know the solution is not to stall it luckily I dont really now but did stop tonight on the way home from work, turned it off whilst still in gear so had to p**s about rocking it again.

Yeah, it's just a safety feature so that riders don't start it with the clutch in, then accidentally let go whilst not on the bike, causing damage. I imagine this is more common on smaller bikes as they are more likely to be bought by new riders, who in turn are more likely to make mistakes.

My Varadero 125 (55 plate) starts in gear with no probs. The kill switch is fitted and does work (as I found out at the head of a Q of traffic last w/e Embarassed Embarassed Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes )

you dont want a bike that will start up in gear,,,, ask Froggy on that one lol Very Happy

i had a bike that would start whilst the stand was down,, lost count how many times i scraped the stand cos i forgot to pick it up, as for a kill swithc its easy enough to fit one if you need to, all it does is earth your spark to the frame instead of the plugs,.

Hi

Quite a few bikes do not have kill switches.

Suspect that you might be meant to have a switch on the clutch lever to tell when it is pulled but that it has stuck.

All the best
