zxr 750

Hey all, just bought myself a zxr750 j1. On a j plate, has done 38,000 miles but runs perfect.

Few things though, ive heard it is normal on these that the top end is rattly, on tickover it seems like its knocking but its ok once riding.

Should i really leave it idling to warm it up?

I used to warm my aprilia rs125 by letting it idle but heard it was bad so i just took it easy to warm it up and never had any problems with it.

I think this is normal but ill make sure, when changing gear it is pretty clunky, ive heard this is a bit of a 'characteristic' with kwaks, so that is normal?

You don't need to warm it up like you did with your 2 stroke.

And yes old Kwak gearboxes are quite clunky. Should still be smooth with clutchless shifting though

Doesnt sound to healthy really when changing gear lol but if thats normal then thats fine with me.

The only thing i dont like with this bike is the suspension, it rock hard!!

my zxr750r k1 - had it for a few weeks now, done around 400 miles - getting used to it, came from a NC30 to this and it is just like an NC on steroids.

std rear shock is terrible, luckily mine has ohlins aftermarket shock, the ratlles i think are fairly common

i have close ratio gearbox and flatslides with the slipper clutch and usdf for £1950.00 purchase price and £210.00 fully comp with C Nash

You don't actually know what you have there do you? It's not a K1 as you put it so your insurance will very likely be invalid.

Hi

Rear suspension was rock hard. Common opinion when new was that the problem was not just the shock but also the linkage. A replacement linkage was available (from NWS I think).

You need to let 4 strokes warm up just like 2 strokes before thrashing them. Unless you really do not like the cams and want them to have a short life.

Might be worth checking the condition of the cush drive rubbers. That ZXR is from the days when Kawasaki launched the ZZR600, a bike with cush drive rubbers that had the life expectancy of a male amourous Black Widow spider.

Think the ZXR has shimmed valve adjustment. As such these normally get quiet when they need adjusting. Probably worth checking them (because most people do not bother).

also the vin numbers checks a zxr750r ,,,seems its just what people call em
