Help Please

Hi i have recently bought what i believe is a honda cg 125 however i don't know for sure weather it is or not or how to find out. I also don't know what year the bike is so i can't get a manual and start tinkering.

I really want to know everything about this bike before i start work on it. How can i find out?

I know with cars you can type an engine number into the computer and find out everything, but i don't know where the numbers are on bikes or if it can be done.

Also the bike has been used for field use and theres no ignition you just kick start it and go.

Please please please help me here.

question, did you get the reg forms, are the engine numbers there? is the frame number there?
did you bother asking why it had no ignition?
did you ask if it was legal?
did you check for signs of off road use, like mud and stuff, badly worn tyres. stuff like that?
if your not sure i'd recoment going to the local cop shop and tell them you have a feeling you bought a stolen bike. they wont press charges hopefully,

I just want to know mostly the make model and year so i can get a manual, but if i can get any other info to that would be cool.

There isn't going to be that much original on that bike. If you are planning to put it on the road, you will have a lot of work on your hands. That said, they do make good field bikes. Looks just like the ones the guy up the road from me makes.

From the description, it is probably a Brazilian model but I'm not sure what year.

The chassis number is usually stamped into the headstock, you may have to scrape some paint off if the frame has been repainted. The engine number is usually stamped onto the crankcase below the carb on the left hand side.

Do not be surprised if they have been ground off. Stolen CG125s often land up being recovered then sold as scrap because the numbers have been ground off/overstamped and the original owner can't be identified. They are often made into field bikes which can't be put back on the road unless they pass a single vehicle approval test (which is quite rigorous).

EDIT: Haynes manuals usually cover the whole range of models so if you buy a Haynes for the CG125, the info for your bike should be in there somewhere.

as already said, that bikes not worth putting abck on the road, too much work. buy a road bike.

I think like you say i can get a manual that covers all the cg 125's but i always thought if you got one particular year it was more detailed.
If i was to enter the vin number into the computer tonight i could find out the year, but where on the bike (in idiot terms) will i find this.
