Speed camera flashing when not speeding?

Hi, I don't know if this is a stupid question or what, but I was riding in south london this morning and was about to enter a speed trap. So I made sure that before I entered it that I was going below 30mph, which I was.

So I enter the speed trap at less than 30mph and still get flashed. As soon as I saw the flashes in the mirror I looked at the speedometer and I was still going under 30mph, so couldn't have been speeding.

So my question is that do they flash even if someone may not be speeding. Or was this camera misconfigured meaning I'm going to get a letter through the door in a weeks time even though i wasn't speeding?

It might have been set off by a car coming the other way. I like setting them off when I'm riding in the opposite direction when a car is going by

There are two flashes so that they can see how far you've progressed in a fixed amount of time (via the white lines). If you weren't speeding, then they'll be able to see that and just discard your case. I don't know why it would go off when you're not speeding though - as someone else said, it may have been someone else setting it off.

Bikes do seem to set them off at odd speeds some times (my RS125 has done so several times when I am under the limit with no other vehicles around). Maybe the wheel spokes are a good reflector of radar waves, and at the top of the wheel they are doing double the bikes speed.

In theory they should check the pictures to ensure they make sense. In practice they often do not bother and just send them out.

You might get a ticket through the post and might have to fight it depending on how much they want to pretend that they are always right. Hopefully they will notice though and dump the pictures.

I had one of the traffic light cameras flash me a couple of weeks ago. I went through on green and as I crossed the line the lights went amber. I was almost across the junction and a car behind me jumped the lights setting the camera off. I was a bit concerned but, fingers crossed, nothing in the post yet.

Apparently if you keep getting caught by forward facing cameras (specs i think) as opposed to gatso they'll send a couple of plod to sit and wait for you if it happens over and over again at the same time.

could be out solving real crimes, springs to mind.

There is that new set of average speed traps on the M77 between Kilmarnock and Ayr, but they are only forward facing aswell . Plus scince they got put up they have only caught 22 people speeding in the space of 4 months. So everybody is slowing down for them and doing the speed limit. It was good hearing the police and MP's on the news saying how effictive it is (which it is!!) but so good to see their faces of dissapointment because they know they were'nt set up for that and it aint generating the money they wanted out of it hahahahahaha. It cost something like, I dunno £5m to set up and say a couple of hundred thousand to maintain in a month and it's generated just over a grand in revenue

Front facing cameras catch too many car drivers as they can be positively identified and not use the excuse it was my Polish nannies boyfriend driving the car when it gets flashed.

Number plates will never go back on the front of bikes as we'd all start carving pedestrians into little pieces if we hit them.

so it looks like we're safe for the time being!
