You need to declare that you have made a claim, how much and normally who was at fault. If you don't and take out a new policy then it can be invalidated.

If you weren't at fault and the costs recovered from a third party then the policy shouldn't be loaded. (in theory)

The 'investigation into it' if you like is still ongoing and could take years- due to the amount of money i'll get if it goes my way! Confused

My current insurers paid out for the bike so i'll tell them about that and see what happens.

Unfortunately I think you'll find they will load your policy until they finally settle with the other party. I lost 3 years NCD for 9 months when I made a claim until it was settled 100% in my favor. I'm not sure if they would reduce your policy premium after the claim is settled if you haven't got any NCB to reinstate.

It's all a bit pants really.

Just a thought, are you planning on riding all year round? You could possible save some cash with someone like Ebike Insurance who let you alter the policy throughout the year.

They will ask you if you had made any claims in the past X years...I've also seen on some online forms asking to state the status of any claim outstanding - i.e. you need to say that you have a claim "pending", if that is the case. I think that in this situation, they will assume that you have a 50/50 claim against you.

Remember that all of the information is shared amongst insurance companies - but they won't make any effort to dig out dirt until you need to claim, and if they find anything going against your profile, they can refuse to pay out (and invalidate your insurance).

Hold on a sec. You're old bill and you're about to commit insurance fraud ie failure to disclose. You do of course realise that this is illegal and leads on to other criminal offences?

That you have a claim going through.

Cannot remember the legal term, but basically you are meant to tell them anything that may be relevant.

All the best

Now this is a good one and should wind up Palmer

'Obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception'

Section 16 of the 1968 Theft Act

(b) He is allowed to borrow by way of overdraft, or to take out any policy of insurance or annuity contract, or obtains an improvement of the terms on which he is allowed to do so.

Quick explanation

Essentially, a pecuniary advantage is more money. If you have gained a pecuniary advantage, you are richer than you were before. It also refers to situations where you should have paid for something, but didn't; although you have not gained physical money, your bank balance remains better off than it should be.

I think I should get a gold blob just for knowing that even though the explanation is a cut 'n' paste

It's to do with "utmost trust". They will ask if you have any accidents, and there, you must declare.

Technically, your claim, unless a third party was involved, then you could cancel the claim before any pay out...

Basically- if the worst comes to the worst and i end up having to leave my job, compensation wise- i could be looking at near enough a 6 figure sum. Razz

Altohugh that would be nice- i just want what im now out of pocket -ie £10 000.

Insurance wise-i think ill stick where i am and see what they say.
