i went past a back volvo estate with blue lights on the roof about 10mph over the limit any ideas what it is?

police use vehicles like that sometime to do vehicle escorts, ie royalty etc etc

Sussex police used to use a fair number of these vehicles, they weren't undercover, although they were used for discreet purposes e.g. armed response etc..

I have noticed a couple of private ambulances running around with blue lights stuck to the top of them.

The cops will very rarely turn round to go after someone they think is speeding (except in town possibly) by the time they have stopped and turned round, the speeder is usually long gone.

I thought he meant a stick on light which is what they do sometimes, if it was a permanant one then im not sure.

Traffic cars (marked or unmarked) always have sh1t loads of ariels on the roof, and the police generally have to be in uniform ie white shirts and epiletes, they'll probadly have flouresent jackets on or handy (always a give away, the one use for health and safety rules) Laughing

(hastings and bexhill are running around in a matalic blue skoda octavia saloon, so if anyone comes to the seaside keep em peeled)
