Hi

Sounds like the starter is not engaging.

Not sure on the NSR, but on some 125s the starter uses a fairly crude weighted gear that flys out and engages on the flywheel. Sometimes they stick so the starter spins without engaging.

All the best

Keith

starter clutch? chopped some teeth of a gear?

try bumping the engine over a few cycles. then press the starter, does it turn the engine over?

Your battery is flat, the motor isn't turning quickly enough to flick the gear right out. Mine does it if I try to start it with high beam on, I turn the lights off and it's just go enough juice to start it.

Mine does it every time I leave the lights on and partially drain the battery - seriously, before you take anything apart, charge the battery, I'm sure it'll work. It's just not spinning fast enough to throw out the little cog which engages with the motor, and when it does, it turns very slowly because of the low voltage.

Bump it and rev it a little to put a surface charge on the battery, then try, that should give it just enough power to start properly...

My RS125 did that when the battery was dead, and it wouldnt turn over.
When the battery was charged the engine was turning over but it still wouldnt start, as they try to start the engine it sends some petrol to the carb i think (quote me if im wrong) but i got a new spark plug as mine was totally buggered and it worked first time afterwards.
trying to use electric start when battery dead didnt help the spark plug in my case.

Sorry if i confuse you with this post my english is terrible.

Sounds to me as if the starter motor is jamming.
