Where can i get a plastic welding kit ?

As the title says im after a plastic welding kit, does anyone know where i can get one from ?

Ive decided that from now on i want to learn more about repairing bikes including plastic welding. So anyone who can point me in the right direction, your help will be apreciated

do you not just use a soldering gun/iorn an sum zip ties,,,, thats what i use ,, seesm to work..

Plastic Welding kit = big sod off soldering iron (often based on a hot air gun) plus "plastic welding rods".

You can get a good repair as long as you have a soldering iron that's man enough for the job, some compatible plastic (i.e. it melts, sets and combines with the thing you're welding), I use cut up cd cases, but cable ties sound a great idea Finally, and most important, technique

What you don't want to do is smear a bit of melted plastic over the top of the crack. You need to make a proper, welded join much as you would if you were welding metal.

Guessing you have a cracked fairing:

tack weld it on one side by putting little blobs of weld over the crack every 2-3cm. The idea here is just to hold the two bits in their final position so you can do the weld proper.

Turn over the fairing. use a file to cut the crack into a "V" section, about half as deep as the fairing. Then run a bead of weld up the "V" section. Remember, you are trying to melt both sides of the "V" while feeding in more plastic from your rod to fill up the little valley. If you have done it right, you'll end up with a weld standing slightly proud of where the "V" once was.

Turn the fairing over, and repeat. Here, the second "V" should actually cut into the welding you did so carefully on the other side.

File off the welding bead flush on the "good" side of the fairing, fill any holes with filler. paint. tada.

Obviously, practice on something first. It's not too hard. And mind the fumes.

Bit of trial and error with any waste plastic that's lying around the house will find something that will do the trick. Much cheapness.
