Buying bikes, spares or repair

What is the crack as far as buying bikes for spares or repairs? So long as they haven't been stolen (though without keys or a V5 it does look dodgy) or been a Cat A or B write-off, even without a V5 etc, they could be put back on the road and the keeper changed to me?

Is spares or repairs normally just a way of saying non-runner?

is what I'm looking at. If I bought it and broke it for spares and to cannabalise (seeing as they and their spares in general aren't especially common), how does it work in terms of having it taxed/ sorned etc? You don't have to get a certificate for scrapping it unless the frame is crushed, do you?

It could be a cat B, and hence has had the V5 taken away. You can try re-applying for a V5, it might just work

If it's not registered, then it doesn't need to be taxed etc...

Probably best to clarify with the seller mate - ask why it doesn't have a log book, maybe ask for the previous reg...etc...
