Get to the top of a hill. Ignition on, select a top gear. Get some speed down the hill holding in the clutch and once up to a decent speed ease the clutch out. Once it fires, ride off. If at first you dont succeed, try try again.

Easy peasy, unless you have a CX and you are at the bottom of a hill.

Depending on the weight of the bike, you could have someone pushing it, i used to be able to bumpstart my 175 by running along side it, clutch in, when i got some momentum going i'd jump on the seat and let the clutch out, and give her a bit juice. As soon as she comes to life, take clutch in and give her some revs. Take for a nice ride to charge battery aswell! But if its a bigger bike, i wouldent recommend it!

It won't bump start if there is an imobiliser installed though, you will have to use jump leads or a charger to get the battery up to at least 6v before the immobiliser will enable the engine.

bumped my cx in 3rd gear a few times with no battery fitted running/steady walking besides it. It doesn't need too much speed as I only had the length of my garden as the runway. I just use a jumper pack now incase it does get a little low, I keep it tied to the pillion seat I think their only around 20 quid from cheapo places like hyper value.

A bike will bump with an alarm fitted, even though the battery is flat, you can still disable the immobiliser on most alarms. Just make sure you do this before you try bump starting it.

I remember when my dad came to see my new bike (i only remember cus it was only around 10 days ago!). I was going to start it for him, kicked it over, it started...then the revs dropped and it died. Tried again, same thing. Eventually it wouldent even start! Eventually i put it down to the engine being cold, the water cooling being very efficient.

Later on in the day i found out that i had left the petrol tap in the "Off" position Embarassed

. I think its because the one on my old bantam used to be stuck on all the time Laughing

A mate of mine has an RX50, it was pissing it down, this was yesterday, and it wouldn't start. He does a very agile trick of running alongside it with the clutch in, then jumping aboard and as he lands gives it a kickstart. He tried this a couple of times but it wouldn't go and he was knackered so I gave him a hand by grabbing the handrail and pushing with. We got it going but as it started he let go of the clutch and the back wheel locked up. Nearly lost it in the rain but he let it out and revved the tits off it, managed to keep it upright. Bit of a scary moment though. Shocked
