GSX-R600 Headlight

Only had my GSX-R600 for a couple of weeks and tonight is the first time I've tried to go out in the dark, The headlights don't seem to be working. Maybe I'm missing something really simple. The small pilot light works ok and the 'pass' switch illuminates both headlights no problem so the headlights themselves work ok but the normal riding headlights don't seem to want to work. Could it be as simple as a fuse. Typical can't find a torch as usual to check.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Lets get the silly question out of the way first - are you puhing the 'on' switch over far enough?

Do the rear lights work? if so then the fuse must be ok

On switch pushed over as far as it will go. Rear lights work fine. Also the headlamp flasher works OK it's just the lights for 'normal' night time riding.

How old is the bike?
Maybe lead has come adrift or corroded behind the bulb housing.
You could test that current is getting to the wires where they attach to the headlight bulb holder by using another bulb e.g. indicator and a bit of wire.
Its unlikely the bar switch is faulty in my experience - unless its been pranged.

If the pass lights work ok then there's nothing wrong with the actual lamps, you're just not getting a feed from the on/off switch which then goes through the dip/main switch.

Try undoing and cleaning the main connector blocks from each switch unit, if that doesn't sort it then it's time to open up the switches and poke about with a multi-meter.

side/dip/main

The flasher only works on the main beam, not the dip. Have you taken one of the bulbs out to check the filament?

I've seen a bike before where both 'dip' lights were blown but the main was ok.

Exactly DucatiEvo, sounds just like your dipped filament in the bulb has gone.

Pilot light is a seperate bulb, and the high beam is a different filament.

That'd be my first port of call.

Thanks once again for all your info. Neither main or dip beam work on the normal lighting switch. Will check all connectors, bulbs and switches this weekend and let you know.

Lights are working now. A quick squirt of WD40 on the switch and a bit of jiggling and on they came. Happiness.
