Going to be picking up my winter hack on Sunday, a G reg FZR 600, sick and tired of commuting 30 miles to work in the car!

Only problem is, i have no winter biking gear at all, and so am looking at buying some warm waterproof gear.

The Gortex stand had some impressive stuff on it at the NEC Bike Show. Has anyone got any recommendations on two piece Gortex suits, Gloves, and Boots?

Hein Geriche stuff seems very popular on here, and they do have quite an impressive range so bound to have something your looking for.

Sidi rain-boots seem quite a popular winter choice too.

Personally my winter wear is a Belstaff textile jacket, with Riche textile trousers. Both with removable linings so handy for the wetter summer months too.

Budget at least £400 if your looking for gortex stuff. Less if you can get last seasons stuff.

I bought a Hein Gerike two piece Gortex suit for £275 in Oct 2004, and used it thriught out the winter and summer. For summer you can remove the inside lining. Comes with Hein Gerike armour and back protector. I have used it for over 3000 miles since last year, in all weather and the material is excellent with not even a single leak. Its very warm ideal for harsh winters (the inside lining is very warm) and is water proof.

I too use Hein Gericke... Mine cost about £250, but is not made of Goretex, it uses Sheltex instead and I was told in the shop it's the same thing apart from name Smile

Really really comfy, I don't need the lining even in extreme cold (Although I do use it) and it supports in all the right places, I'm sure it's saved me from backache a few times.

The inner lining is boiling hot, if you like that sort of thing and I've tested it in extreme wet and it has held up well.

Hope that helps

If you're commuting you might want to consider the Turismo Suit (click link) from Giali UK.

Saw one at the NEC and it's not cheap at £350 but I guess that's comparable to good quality seperates. It's also a lot cheaper than the Aerostitch (or however it's spelt) alternative from the USA. Bit tricky to get on first but looks like the sort of thing you'd get used to.

The thing I liked about it is that I can wear my office clothes and just put this on for riding the bike (assuming I'd leave shoes and jacket at the office).

Other than that I'd give a Thumbs Up to the Hein Gericke gear.

Anyhow, just my thoughts Thumbs Up

Hein Gericke Voyager, now on my second set (the old set were still waterproof after 5 years but grubby) and they've never let me down. I also have Hein Gericke gloves and Sidi Black rain boots.

A coupld of tips for buying your winter kit. If you already have waterproof gloves, take them with you to make sure the cuffs go over the gloves (rain) and also buy a slightly loose pair of boots so that you can wear thermal socks for longer journeys.

Welcome to all year round biking, I've recently gone back to it and I love seeing the lemmings in their cages, stationary for hours on end Very Happy

Cheers

Grim

Wow! £267 ish! thats a bargain. I'll have to take a trip to our local Hein Gericke to see what they've got in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Grim, i used to be an all year round biker when i started riding in '93 for about 5 years, mainly because that was my only form of transport. Was riding a 1990 ZXR750 and my winter hack was a 1973 Honda C50, but i got nicked and had to sell the bike and get a car, boought a ZX7R in 2001 though and have been a summer rider for the past 4 years.

The ZX10R is too nice a bike to use in the winter and trying to get to work in a reasonable amount of time is getting increasingly more difficult and hazardous in the car. So a second bike was a must. Really looking forward to it now, can't wait to get on it.

Haven't ridden at all for a bout 6 weeks! just moved into a house with no garage, so a friend is housing my ZX10R for me for a while whilst i sort out a bike garage for the back garden. I've won a Bike Safe garage on ebay for £620 and a removals firm is going to pick it up and transport it to where i live for £282, which isn't bad considering they cost £1800 new!

So the FZR is going to cost £350 and it needs tax/test/insurance, probably another £250 and some winter gear is going to cost between £270 and £500 its been an expensive month! (between £1770 and £2000!) But hey! i'll have my baby back with me and i bike i can ride in the sh*t weather as well, good times are ahead!
