I have no idea why, but this bike has really gotten under my skin! It keeps popping up in my dreams and now i really want one. It just looks so damned cool.
However in the same moment i keep thinking, it will be crap, boring and a waste of time.....will likely keep its value well though......

Does anyone else get interested by bikes like these? I like sportsbikes, but i dont think about them all that often.......especially as i think ill never fit on any of them!

The retro cool is definitely attractive to me, but i fear in reality it will just be a chrome adorned dissapointment thats not particulary useful for anything other than a trip to the shops at the weekend. Confused

What do you guys think about the scrambler?

I really like the look of them, but I think you have to look like Steve McQueen to ride one! Wink

Well, I would say it is pretty much a Bonneville with high level pipes and different bars from looking at the picture. Should do anything a bonnie does and burn your right leg into the bargain.

If it is your kind of thing, go for it. It is a 650 twin so it should have a fair bit of poke to it, not sportsbike poke but easily enough to keep up in the majority of situations. I rather like them but can't help thinking it would look less cluttered with a high level 2-1 exhaust. That or a linked pair if conical end cans like on a Hurricaine.

Fairly authentic to the period though, could use an alloy peanut tank too though.

looks alot better with the single seat in my opinion.Bash plate and race number make it look swanky too.
I can see where you feel it looks plain though,in the smae why i feel that about enfields. But theres just something that stirs me when i look at it.
I agree you would need to look like Steve McQueen to do it any justice......but, oh i want one!

Its an 865cc twin with 270 degree crank instead of the bonnevilles and thruxtons 360 degree which is apparently smoother according to Bike magazine.Only puts out 46bhp at the wheel however Confused

Agree with the leg burning possibilities though Shocked. But im sure those pipes are worth it for the noise Very Happy

Keep thinking i would have to have an open face helmet to ride it as well. I hate open face lids. Laughing

It isn't necessarily the number of ponies but what you do with them that counts. My mates Aermacchi 350 would be struggling to make 30 bhp but it still does a 90mph lap of the IOM.

Another way of looking at it is it is about the same as/a little more than a GS500.

It does look like a real cool bike and does have that 'I want one' thing about it but.....

I reckon it would just be too refined and not the enjoyable ride it looks seem to perceive. For its price, well you could have something real old school with more style, grunt and fun.

Thumbs Up

I love it. I love the thruxton more though Smile

The whole retro side to the triumph range is fantastic.

It really upset me when i discovered he didn't actually do that stunt, spoiled it for me. I reckon his best are Bullit and Papillion.

Also really like the pipes on the old Thunderbird Sport, and it has the proper 900 triple engine.

I like the scarmbler a lot, but was also concerned about right-leg burning issues.

I've always liked the look of the Bonneville.

Sports bikes are cool, but they're all sports bikes.

These bikes have "character" or some other cliche-laden descriptor.

Scrambler would have to be taken off road in some capacity, just for the coolness. Should drift well on gravel too.

Scrambling one one of those things is for none but the brave. My mate does the odd pre '65 scramble and has run a proper TriBSA scrambler in them. Apparently there are two techniques. The 125 2-stroke and 350 single boys pick their way through using the bikes handling to find grip where it is. Then there are the 500 and 650 twins (usually running on 12:1 compression and alcohol) .

Goes something along the lines of: point bike at exit of stage, open throttle, dump clutch. Now hang on as best you can and change up a gear if the engine is racing. Best to close the throttle a little if both wheels leave the ground.

You either land up finishing very quickly, falling off painfully with a heavy bike on top of you or stuck up to the axles in mud.

Basically if you scrambled with it, your going to break a leg. I think its a scrambler in name only Wink

Looks excellent and appears to have more than enough ground clearance. Maybe with a properly set up suspension and some decent rubber on it you could surprise a few people. Thumbs Up
