The examiner will ask you at the end of the test two questions on pillions.

Q1 ) What do you need to check/adjust on the bike when carrying a pillion?
A1) You need to check/adjust the rear tyre pressure, rear ride height/suspension, lights and mirrors.

Q2) What would you tell someone who has never been pillion before?
A2) Lean with me/bike when going around corners. Try and keep the weight as close to the rider as possible. Hold onto rider or grab rails (whichever is comfortable for them). Not to move around much/sudden movements

You get asked two questions (a show me and a tell me) at the start of the test but as you haven't asked about these I'll assume you know about this bit.

When i go for my test, should i turn up in proper bike gear, like trousers and boots or can i just wear jeans and trainers?

And you lifesavers, are they when you are about to turn left you look over your left shoulder and the same for a right turn yea?
Thumbs Up

i think you should be doing lifesavers whenever you change your position in the road, going round parked cars, skips etc, just have a quick glance behind.

Be careful with them questions though they tend to re-word them to try and confuse you i was asked 'how is the balance affected carrying a pillion' rather than 'How would the handling of a bike be affected by carrying a passenger' not too different but it threw me a bit Confused

I am told to do lifesavers everytime you are gonna change direction and to keep making obvious that you are also continually looking in your mirrors for you rear observations too.
I would wear your bike boots certainly not your trainers, jeans will be ok, not everyone has or is expected to have full leathers to start with.
My test is soon and I am beginning to tremble Sad

My examiner asked what is the main difference when riding with a pillion. I had fuck all idea what he was on about.

The answer was ballance, your ballance is affected and having thus passed my test and taken a pillion he was right, i deserved a minor for that.

Failed FOR FUCKS SAKE!!

I had 4 minors, but i didnt get the pillion Q right, about how its affects ur balance, my mind went blank.. so is that a major, not answering that Q.

minors were:

turn in the road - put my foot down,
signal
observation
balance

So what was my major then?

Probably the turn in the road.

If you look at your test sheet it should be marked which is the serious.

Anyway get your test rebooked, by the looks of it you weren't that far off.

S means Serious. D is dangerous.

I failed mine today too.

Two minutes in to the test.

Time about 3:20, all the parents parked either side of the road. Only room for one car to go through. Didn't pull in quick enough apparently. Made that mistake 3 times. First 2, I get a minor for each. 3rd, he gives me a serious marking. No one's lives were in danger. No one had to slow down, well except me. no one had to swerve... 5 minors altogether.

C**t.

I should have passed. I feel robbed. I'm gutted.

Test booked for 1st December.

So is the S a major or is the D a major..

and i got my test rebooked for 8th December, i felt like smashin sumthing up when i failed. Shoulda passed the bitch

Edit

i take it its the S thats the major

also, there is quite a wide road, with no markings for straight on and turning right, and i went over to the right of the road, but i was going straight on, that and the u-turn probably the majors

As far as I can remeber an S stands for Serious and D stands for Dangerous. Either of these will cause a fail.

Bad luck fella, but that fault is not a minor. I should know as I failed my test two weeks ago for the same reason! I got four minors and one serious (foot down).

Keep your head up, and get the test rebooked. I rebooked mine as soon as I got back to the training centre and my retest is in a couple of weeks.

Better luck next time Thumbs Up

What will make me chuck my teddy is that if I have a really good ride, all my lifesavers etc then put my bloody foot down and fail cause of it. I still stay putting your foot down and failing is a bit harsh, surely it is safer if you think the bike is going to go over to put your foot down, the first thing you do if you fall over is put your hands out but I guess its something that they can fail you on, after all it would not do any good if everyone passed first time, just hope I do. So can you have so many minors and still pass providing you dont put your foot down, how many is it?

Think its 15 minors before they fail you. Or a major if you put your foot down.

Bad luck both or you, rebook, do it again and you'll be fine!

Not meaning to boast but had my test yesterday and passed with 3 minors, if I can do it anyone can!!

Whats the answer to 'how does carrying a pillion affect your balance', theres a site which is listed above with the Q n A, but it hasent got that Q.

And if i didnt answer the Pillion Q right, is that a major or isit marked as a minor.

Cheers
