What is it about L plates that makes all CBT'ers decide to rag around like loons? Coming back from town today with a CBR125 in front of me and a scooter thing behind me and both were riding like complete ballsacks. I was going to get alongside the CBR bloke and tell him to calm the fuck down but he decided to twist the throttle and go at 50 through a 20mph school zone. No way was I going to even attempt it.

Tip for all, don't speed through town. If you want to speed, go to somewhere you're unlikely to hurt others and only hurt yourself.

I saw one on a DT or similar the other day. He skidded into a junction, then straight off again, ragging the hell out of it, narrowly aoiding parked cars because he turned out of the junction so fast. Bloody idiots. Rolling Eyes

Theres a couple of 30's that I do 40 in [Not all the time, just when the roads are dead and it's non-busy times], but I slow down for where the schools and shops are. Also for the parked cars at the side.

I know what you mean though. The majority of peds are here and absolutely stark raving mad. The crossers bomb it down our road with speed bumps at about 60, past a load of shops, parked cars, comprimising side roads and a primary school... not to mention the amount of times I see them screaming on around a corner, drifting into the opposing lane. Its not a question of if, it's when...

About the only dangerous thing I do is filter Wink Biking is dangerous enough with all the other knobs on the road.

Whilst I agree that some of my fellow 'L' platers can be err reckless, some of the filtering I see on the A406 from 'bigger bikes' is complete lunacy!!

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how big the bike is, it the rider that makes the decisions!

I agree that young kids with L Plates can be reckless but then some bigger bike riders can be also be reckless. I ride a 125 on L Plates i am 46 yrs old, tonight on my way home from work a biker on a large bike thought it was fun to pull along side of me and rev his engine so that it made me jump out of my skin and swerve into the kirb, lookly i stayed on so no damage to myself or my bike he never even turned back to see if i was ok. But that dosnt mean i think all large bike riders are idiots so please dont think all us L platers are ive been riding on an off for twenty years just never bothered to do my test as dont want to ride a larger bike and dont want to carry pillion passengers.

This is going to end up all 50 riders and ped riders are knob end arguement!!

Lets face it, we are all riders and about 30% of ALL are knob ends on their bikes.

L-platers normally have an inferiority complex and a need to prove themselves. A lot of them haven't realised that everyone thinks they are a twat and couldn't care less how fast their little machine pretends to be able to go. I'd hope most people would realise that you should ride for yourself rather than trying to impress people -> they won't be impressed.

Yes, plenty of larger bike riders can be reckless, but they often have the experience and the machinery to do it on. They might look out of control to you, but they probably aren't. The problem I have with people being reckless on L-plates is that they tend to do it in town i.e. 'look at me!', where there are plenty of people to hit, not just trees, walls and signposts.

I don't have an inferiority complex and at 43 I'm far too old to give a shit about trying to impress...there are better ways. I have to disagree about large bike riders having the experience over L plate riders. Many will have done their DAS because they don't want to ride a 125 for more than a few days, so they still have the experience but more HP to do damage.

My mate has been riding bikes since he was 13 and has an L plate, i recently passed my DAS after riding a year and although he takes more risks than me he is a probably a better rider.

We are often amused at bike meets by ppl with big bikes who look like they are going to drop them when manouvering around the car park.

scooter loonies, always seem like they have somthing to prove. the other night in the wet, a series of roundabouts which I know are quite slippery so I always take extra care going round them in the wet. these two scooter loonies belted past waving an arm in the air and looking back at me, how fecking stupid is that, they have a roundabout comming up, its wet, there is commuter traffic everywhere and they are riding one handed and looking backwards. stupid fuckers think they are all big and hard cause they went past a bigger bike. get a fucking life !!!

rant over

well i didnt struggle with an r1 but I saw someone struggle with one at the weekend at quatt cafe and they are not that heavy really

fact is that L plate warriors tend to ride a lot more than weekend warriors

the mate i mentioned has done nearly 30000 kms on his 2005 rs125 and he's only had it a year.

I feel that some L plate warriors just like to try and be like the big bikers.

They want respect and they don't realise they have to earn it.

We all go a little faster now and then but most of us are past puberty and know when it is safe to go 40 in a 30 zone.

I went on my CBT with these 2 lads who had brand new streetfighter 100cc's and they were as good as gold. I thought how responsible they were.

I now see these 2 lads riding around the streets similar to what snake eyes said - waving their arms in the air, trying to get me to race them in the rain, tooting their horns etc... Morons!

Then again, there are safe 17 year old riders too.

Thats my opinion.

The Lone Rider.

You are hardly a normal L-plater though. Smile I did say most big bike riders. L-platers are normally 17 year olds trying to be as 'good' as bikers who have passed the test. They haven't come to the same realisation as you, that it really isn't that important.

I've already voiced my opinion and observations in other posts regarding 'scoot' riders and 'L' plate Warriors.

But, something I have noticed in the last week, is that some of them seem to feel 'intimidated' (for want of a better word) by having a large bike behind them.

I followed a scooter rider the other day - directly behind him (yes, it was a 'him' and yes, he was on 'L's) and riding to the speed limit perfectly OK. But, at every junction where we had to stop, he seemed determined to give it full throttle and thrash the balls off it, just in an attempt to get away from me.

Why?

I was respecting his position in the line of traffic and simply following behind. Nothing more. If I wanted to get past him I WOULD get past him. And, if I HAD passed him, I would have given a nod and a wave, as I always do.

IMO, they are not inferior bikers. They are simply bikers just like the rest of us, but they're riding slower bikes, that's all. I just wish they'd stop trying to 'show off' or act like 'superior' bikers. Not everyone on a bigger bike is trying to piss them off. Most of us are quite considerate towards them (well, I am, anyway).

BTW: Ragdoll, I never tar everyone with the same brush Thumbs Up

What about me? 19 year old L plater warrior on a CBR 125? I take pride in my riding, i dont speed, unless its an open road with no traffic and its clear and dry. I Just stick to the speed limits in wet conditions, cant be bothered tear arsing around braking heaviley and loosing my front wheel due to lack of grip!

If I spot a biker on a big bike behind me, I tend to change road position from the right hand of my lane to left - for a couple of reasons.

If they fancy thrashing it by me, they can do so nice and safely in the same lane as me. If they dont want to thrash it by me, said biker it keeping me nice and protected, with the option of ragging it whenever he sees fit. If something silly happens, he's not going to go straight into the back of me.

As far as impressing them goes, I dont bother. I'd assume a lot of "big bike" rider are impressed with a learner doing the speed limits, selecting the right line, and doing life-savers where needed etc.

I used to ride a scooter and found that big bikers (most of them) had no time for us on scooters whether we drive normally or not.

I always vowed to respect bikers who respect me so I always give a nod to people on scooters.

I found that when I used to ride a scooter (for 3 years) I would get the occasional nod from a big biker and it would give me a good feeling to see that there are bikers out there who respect all on 2 wheels and not just those that go 150mph.

Its a bit of 6 of one half a dozen of another.

L plate'ers want respect from bigger bikers but its vice versa too.

I was riding around pendle hill a few weeks after getting my Varadero on a nice sunny day, checking what speed I could do (straight country road with no traffic).

I was doing around 65mph which is comfortable for me when this bike came from no where and bombed past me at I don't know what speed. I had to stop at the side of the road for a minute to get my head round what had just passed me. There was no respect there. The guy was inches from me when he roared past. I didn't even see him in my mirrors.

I love to watch and learn from big bikes but I think some of the safest riders around are on 125's.

The Lone Rider.
