haven't read it yet but...

"A Kid is a road user. A biker is a lump of metal"

if the kid is in a car then they too are a lump of metal, if not they are not a road user they are a pedestrian and should cross roads as safe places, i.e zebra crossings et al.

Kid are not road users. At best they are temporary guests in my territory when using designated crossing points.

all there points couldn't be backed up with proof and everything they said about why bikes are bad could be applied to cars. The are far more cars on the road.

How many bikers have actually hit any kind of pedestrian let alone a child. bikes being thin and manoverable makes it hard to hit pedestrians (believe me i have tried Laughing ) It's all the government pushing to make all bikers 27+

i think there was a case on another forum (visorsdown) where a drunk woman ran out in the road and the rider could do anything but hit her, both survived but the women came off worse, and the rider not much better. Thumbs Down Crying or Very sad
but at the end of the day its a terrorty issue

Should I wish to kill children whilst they play football on a major road then so be it.

If I was to mow them down whilst they were in a park then I could understand the title of "child killer".

Hmmm...

Quote:
Bikers are 25 times more likely to be killed per mile travelled than car occupants and five times more likely to be killed than cyclists [5]

So unless im going mad, its 5 times safer to be on a pushbike then on a bike.

But its 5 times being safer in a car then on a pushbike.

Per mile travelled...

I always knew push bikes were dodgy Laughing

I can't find any other evidence that they/he actually said that (is MCN making it up or exaggerating?). Having said that, there is some terrific drivel on the Brake website!

As he publishes his phone numbers for interviews and questions, perhaps someone should call Andrew Hill (01484 688086 or 07989 478436 apparently)

Although I don't read MCN, I read enough posts on here to know that they don't always publish the 'whole story' shall we say.

Never heard of Brake before today, but browsing thru the website is a cringeworthy experience.

Has anyone got the figures for car-car crashes?

Just curious

if this fool did say this then he should make a formal apology and should be fired. the things he said are a disgrace to the human race. yes i am quite offended by what he wrote.

as for bikes being child killers, well why was the child on the road, probably the kid is in the wrong. Unless its like the dozens of schoolkids that gather around a bike to stare and touch. maybe they knocked it onto themselves, Again, their own stupid fault.

Love the use of statistics. No wait, that's lies, damn lies and statistics isn't it Rolling Eyes

So they put all the frightening lies, sorry statistics, on a web site and not one mention of how they'll see these reduced. Except I presume from assuming that bikes shouldn't be ridden.

The good news from these stats:
BRAKE wrote:
What types of crashes kill bikers?
In 2004 there were:

· 3,623 single-vehicle motorbike crashes involving no other road users, killing 139 riders bike crash
· 246 crashes involving two motorbikes, killing eight riders
· 12,803 crashes involving a motorbike and a car, killing 227 riders
· 179 crashes involving a motorbike and a bus or coach, killing seven riders
· 791 crashes involving a motorbike and a light goods vehicle, killing 30 riders
· 354 crashes involving a motorbike and a heavy goods vehicle, killing 24 riders [10]
is that no motorcyclist was involved, or even killed, in a collision with any pedestrian (child or otherwise). So using their own stats I've just proved motorcyclists cannot be child killers Rolling Eyes

Evil or Very Mad annoys me the use of statistics. As mentioned above the stats 'prove' cyclists are more dangerous than cars. So we'll be wanting to ban them then. No wait, can't do that, the veggie green friends of the earth will be outraged (as they climb into their fuel inefficient 2CVs).

However, as also said MCN do tend to sensationalise. I wonder if they do any proper journalism there? Guess I might be at fault though for thinking it's a newspaper. IMO 'The Sun' is more credible in that department. Saw the MCN headline a bit back on how police ignore drunk drivers. Turns out their idea of investagative journalism is to put someone in a open top car with beer cans strapped to his head and get him to follow police cars to see if they stop him Rolling Eyes Surprisingly they didn't. That just shows the police don't notice dickheads.

Interesting that their stats from last year dont mention chiblies....

What types of crashes kill bikers?
In 2004 there were:

In fact not bad % rates there on hitting LGV's or buses........most bikers lived considering comparison in size from bike and other vehicle....

· 3,623 single-vehicle motorbike crashes involving no other road users, killing 139 riders
· 246 crashes involving two motorbikes, killing eight riders
· 12,803 crashes involving a motorbike and a car, killing 227 riders

its possible i could be convinced that you couldnt possibly use a people carrier, but you arent gonna convince me that you need to keep your bullbars on your 4x4.

the only reason you would need them, is if you crash into things a lot and need to protect your headlights from breaking
