My dad owns a Yamaha Virago, he has had it scince around this time last year. He keeps his outside, under a raincover and chained up. The chrome is quite pitted in some places, and the controls are rusting slightly. The downpipes are also a bad target on cruiser type bikes. You should be ok if you give the offending areas a quick wipe before covering it  ____________________ Will work for petrol
