Bright led's on the front of vehicles enhances their visibility, so should we put them on the front of bikes to high light our presence to other vehicles.
You can see cyclists a mile off with those flashing led's!

I always think reflective rime tape is a good one. You don't look like a weirdo in daylight (except for the rim tape) Smile and the stuff shows up very well at night.

I think that flashing LEDs on vehicles are illegal, aren't they? I heard that the same was true for bikes, but obviously not, as all bike lights flash.

Kind of not. Embarassed

Still think it's a good added safety measure for night time riding. Razz

Hyperbright LEDs in the headlamp would be a good idea, but you have to put a little blob of foil on top to disperse the light. Also, i couldn't be arsed wiring them up - far too much effort.

The cycle lights are not road legal in 'flash' mode, you have to show a constant white light to the front and a constant red light to the rear. Some of them get past this by 'shimmering' with some or other of the LEDs in the cluster on all the time. They are allowed to market them as cycle lights because they do have a 'constant' mode too.

You aren't allowed an LED headlamp on a bike or car because construction and use regulations state that you must use a bulb with a filament. This is a throwback to the 1930s to prevent people fitting acetylene (gas powered) lamps to new vehicles. Largely because they are crap and have a nasty habit of blowing up.

Flashing lights will be illegal..

White from the front, amber on the sides, red at the back, afaik anything else wont be road legal, unless your a doctor/policeman/paramedic e.t.c...

https://www.bikeseen.com/tapes.htm for reflective tape...

Got some of the 3m stuff on my helmet, looks good and works well.. you can buy reflective material from anchor army supplys, got some of that have have sewn it into panniers on the back..

Thumbs Up

You can buy them in halfrauds.

I don't think the blue ones in the windscreens are legal, just the police are too busy counting their ill gotten gatso money to do anything about it. There are strict rules about the colour (white or yellow) and position of lights displayed to the front of a vehicle.

Correct me if I'm wrong here ... but isn't that what the 55/60W bulb in the thing called the headlight is for!!!!!!!!

And it's a lot brighter than a poxy little LED!!!!!

All the best ... Barry

As far as I know its legal to have a flashing light on pushbikes aslong as you have one on constantly too, hence alot of cyclists have 2. Wondering if this is the same for motorbikes? ie headlight(constant) and flashing light (pushbike one?) attached to your body somewhere Question

I fancy mounting some super bright red ones in the tail section and wiring them to the brake light as LED's do react faster than conventional bulbs.

Also brighter my old fella has some mounted in the eyes on a skull on the back of his cruiser man they are sooooo bright! Evil or Very Mad

You can attach as many flashing LEDs as you want to your body.
