Ok, what would the wind chill factor be if you were travelling at a coservative 80mph at zero degrees for two hours.

Youch! Probably around -40.

On the Cairngorms it was around -30-40 with wind chill, when we went skiing. It froze my hair. Mr. Green

...or maybe this will do the trick.[url]https://www.msc.ec.gc.ca/education/windchill/windchill_calculator_e.cfm

can't find anything in MPH though... for conversion - 1 mile = 1.61 km or 1km is 0.62 miles.

About minus 40 is close enough, no need for exact science in this case.
Rule of thumb:- it's too bloody cold! Thumbs Down

A fucking LOT!

I did London to Loughborough last sunday night and it took 2 hours at an average cruising speed of 50-60mph because 80mph was painfully cold.

I was caught out by only wearing my summer gloves.

It had caused me to stop on the hard shoulder of the M1 near Northhampton (only 20 mins after stopping for a coffee) and put my hands on the exhaust pipe to warm them up again.

The windchill felt like -20 degrees. Ambient temp was about 7-10 degrees, wind was cold anyway, but amplify that with an 80mph bike and you'd be looking around -20 degrees i should say.

It was cold enough for tears from my eye to freeze, dribble to freeze to my cheeks and my contact lenses to contract.

If you get caught on the motorway you can put hand dryers in the services to very good use, be supprised how good those warm gloves feel. Mind you it soon gets cold again though! Crying or Very sad

If that happens put your hands in cold water, it stabelises them and slows the effect of the sudden warmth, that's if you meant your hands that is! Wink

I don't bother with winter gloves or heated grips.
I found keeping my hands in my trouser pockets works fine

My biking season ended about 6 weeks ago here in Finland, and it seems that this morning we started to get the colder weather coming. -10C (without WCF) is quite a welcome change from the nasty rainy cold (English type) weather we've been having recently. Everything gets nice and crisp as there' no moisture in the air.

I've known temperatures here to drop to -45C and thats getting a bit harsh if you have to wait for a bus!! Although -20C-->-30C is not uncommon in January. But if the wind picks up then it can be very unpleasant!!

It has its good points though - I can go skiing whenever I want!! Cool

Is that 0° Farenheit or Celcius?

if farenheit then it'd be about -40°F = -40°C

If celcius then it'd be about -12°C = 10°F

a thermometer won't measure windchill.. the reason windchill cools you down is thru evapouration of moisture from the body.. a solid thermometer won't emasure that. you need a wet-bulb thermometer to do that, which can be bodged by putting wet cotton wool around the sensor.
