Alongside another biker, I felt the urge to make conversation.

Me: "its freezing today"
Him: (mumbles something)
Me: "whats that mate?"
Him: (repeats as above)

It's at this point I wasn't sure what to say. Do I nod/agree and laugh/smile? Couldnt understand what he said the first time, second time was as bad. Either i'm getting deaf in my old age, or helmets are quite bad for communication Doh!

He was probably saying, 'What's that mate?'

As he probably couldn't hear you either! Laughing

In those situations it's better to physically talk instead. So instead of saying it, rub your arms together or your hands, he'll understand and you can understand the nod he'll give you back

Or the shake of his head, the pointing and laughing at your wimpyness - j/k Wink

If I want to talk to anyone at lights its a case of getting uncomfortably close and yelling - race can is far too loud.

There is a universal sign language though, myself and another chap where "playing" a game of traffic light GP and a traffic car approaches from high speed lights blazing, we both pull over and the car continues. Cue hitting chest with hand!
