a lots been happening in the last few days after following the advice i've got on here and its all been a great help.

after it "conked out" again since replacing the gaskets and piston rings i figured out it was a problem with oil getting into the engine which caused it to partially seize. Anyway after realising this I checked the rings again to find the new ones have snapped, and also part of the top of the piston has cracked off into the engine. The cylinder is also damaged on the inside.

I'm gonna replace the whole head and pistons now with new ones and if i cant fix the oil problem i'll premix the oil into the fuel tank. All I need now is the mixture, is it 50:1?

It would be cheaper and easier to fix the oil pump, than having to upjet the carb and buy premix.

Im going to go out on a limb here, but i think 50:1 is not rich enough, your looking at around 20:1-30:1, but thats just based on what i used to run my 175 on. I also agree with simon that you should just have the oil pump fixed. Also make sure that no peices of the piston have fallen into the engine when you replace it!

If your adament that you want to premix it i would ask someone who has more experience than me, im just speaking from my own experience. Whats the actual problem with the oil pump? Is it just not pumping at all?

to be honest i'd rather fix the oil pump, but havent got a clue what i'm looking for. I've taken it apart and i can't see anything thats broken. Are there anythings to look out for?

the part that connects to the throttle cable has a couple of needles inside and a needle with a spring on it. There are 2 face plates, that can be removed. one has oil inside and the other petrol. I'm not sure whether this part is faulty or inside the engine.

on the bottom of the oil mixer is a slotted piece of metal with a hole, where the mixed fuel comes out and it locates into a spline on the engine which rotates as the engine turns. there is also a hole through this where the fuel passes.

is there anything to look for in here?

one other thing, i cant seem to find an old drain plug for the engine, does the lubrication come from only the fuel and oil, or is there a separate top up for the big ends and other parts?
