Thats the best way to describe it.
At various times (changing down I think) the er5 I'm doing my training on feels like it is wriggling/wobbling under me. First time it happened I nearly filled my boots.
I've chatted with my instructor about it and he said its probably just the torque from the engine.
By that I mean, I'm used to my 2stroke kmx. Whereas the er5 has a much bigger engine.
At the moment when I'm changing down I tend not to use the brake, just engine braking.

His advice is to use some brake while changing down.

I'm not making a great job of explaining myself here, but can anyone confirm I'm more or less correct?

In any case, if flipping great fun, the big bike.

Thumbs Up

Sounds to me like the pinch bolts want tightening up between the handlebars and front forks Shocked

Check that they haven't recently adjusted the head-stock bearings to take out any excessive 'play' in the steering, and then forgotten to tighten up the pinch bolts at the very top of the forks Shocked

It happens!

I dunno. It's just a suggestion Thumbs Up

I expect it is. Sounds like your changing down at too high a speed, which can be unsettling. Your rear wheel will kick out a little. It's not like a car where you can slow down with gears and not feel anything, which leads me to....

You'll probably fail your test for this. An examiner is not impressed by this nor does he/she want to see it. The view is that a brake light indicates to traffic behind that you are slowing down. You are not able to do this with engine braking no matter how skillful it may appear (incidentally I.A.D DO want to see this-go figure)

I think you need to listen to your instructor and slow down a bit before going down a gear as otherwise the engine breaking will make you wobble. Also do your down shifting before you start to turn to avoid the wobble.

Funnily enough though, you can actually use this for great effect once you get good.

I went to the NEC and had a go on the 450 supermotos. They taught us to lean into a bend and then change down twice to get the back end to go out under engine braking. Its more controlled than trying to do it with the back brake.

It goes against everything you've been taught about keeping the bike stable so feels wierd.
