Gearbox Problems

Bike: GSXR600 K4
As i was pulling away fropm the lights earlier, i changed into 2nd gear. As i went to go into 3rd, it wouldnt go, so i let the clutch out and tried again. It wouldnt go so i slowed down. I took it easy for a bit then tried again-this time it worked. Then a bit later-same kinda thing. I was in second and the neutral light was flashing-not at a constant pace-just flashed now and then.

Im wondering if it's rider error or whether there might be a problem Confused

i had a simular problem on my bike, i just give it some welly and it usually works, sometimes it happens when going down gears and i just give it a good healthy stamp, im not sure it will be the same as your problem as my bike is only a 50cc chicken chaser Wink

It sounds like your not giving the lever enough force, if you dont fully engage the gear, you can slip into a false neutral. So next time your out really give it some, if it still repeats the symptoms, you my friend, have a problem Laughing

DOH!

This will sound a silly Q but how do i check the garbox oil- i never gave it much thought! Embarassed

Hi

On a 4 stroke the gearbox oil and engine oil are the same normally. Most bike engines are a wet sump design so you just check the oil level using either a dip stick built into the filler cap or check it through a window on the side of the engine.

As to the problem you are having, sounds similar to the problem I had with the Bandit when I first bought it. Problem is the return spring for the gear linkage inside the engine. When you go up one gear the linkage does not return to reset the mechanism to select the next gear. Could well just need a new spring (with the Bandit there was apparently a fix to replace it with a stronger spring as it was a known problem).
