Hi,

My XV535 won't start after being stood for a couple of months. I have put a new battery in but I'm having no joy.

The started motor is turning over but it is if there is no gas in the tank - it's not kicking in, just draining the battery.

Tried again today - this time tried starting it in first gear with the clutch in. It jumped, (stalled), I thought you could start a bike in gear as long as the clutch is in.

Could this be a clue to the problem.

Please help - can't afford garage bills.

Cheers

you should have bought a HONDA Laughing

it could be if its been stood a couple of months that the carbs could be gummed up (old fuel) you could try taking the drain screws out the bottom of each carb and drain any old fuel out .
my thoughts only .

Drain the fuel then fill up with some fresh stuff that is what was wrong with mine when it had ben sat for a long time.

Try and clean the spark plugs too as when you have been trying to start it you could of got them wet.

Also check simple things like is the fuel tap turned on?this was also another problem i encountered and that should get it started.

Make sure that when you do get it started go for a long ride to get everything working i=on it again.

Thumbs Up

petrol in the tank might be alright,

look on the bottom of the carb on the right hand side of the bike towards the bottom your see the drain screw loosen it off and petrol will piss out let it do that for about 30 seconds then close it.

put the choke on and start the thing make sure u hold the throtle on and keep the revs up a wee bit for at least a minute.

Check the fuel tap is on. That can be very embarassing.

An engine makes a distinct sound whn it isnt getting any fuel through, are you sure thats the way it sounds? When you clean or replace the plugs, poke your pinky in there and have a wee feel if there's any fuel in the cylinder.

My guess will be dirty plugs, if it started then cut out it'll either be carb freeze or coked plugs. But there's probably a few other things i've missed
