ok people, heres one for you

cbr600fx, just topped her up with coolant and oil, now she wont start unless choke is fully on, and wont run for more than a few seconds. i thaught maybe it was low on petrol, so i topped her up with petrol, and no change.

when she is running, she kinda backfires.

was running fine before i topped up coolant and oil, but i cant see how that would effect it.

Why are you having to perform maintenance on your bike when you don't ride it?

Perhaps take it to a local dealer and get them to service it and just make sure its all spot on?. Has it been sitting for a while ? My brand new bike back fired once when i didnt ride it for a few days. Wink Sounds like you've flooded it to me.

It ran when you bought it. Stop working on it, it will last longer.

it didnt run properly when i bought it, it kept overheating, there was a short in the ignition wiring, and the battery wouldnt hold a charge.

by not working on it it isnt going to fix itself, all im trying to do is get the bike working, and learn as much about it as i can. i have to start somewhere, and if i just give up how am i going to learn anthing.

didnt expect critisisim on a workshop thread, but hey Rolling Eyes

My a little touchy aren't we.

Get a manual for starts and use it.

Check the spark at each plug. Then check fuel is getting through, first at the pump then at the carbs or injecters whichever it has.

Im no expert at all but have you tried the minor kinda things like check see if yur plug is getting a spark?

Have you been messing with your Carb or anything latly? Maybe just not re-connected right.

Can you explain the problem again but in a wee bit more detail?

Stu

My CBR600FX only ever does the backfire thing when its been over on its side, it sounds like an unburnt fuel problem.
