Having looked around the Net probably not as much as i should. I am getting on a bit now (20years old Wink )
An basically my hands are suffering in the cold. I've turned to heated grips as it doesnt seem to be whatever gloves i wear my ands get cold.

However my problem Is I am only using a little RXS for the work run. An it only uses 6 volt system. So I'm down on power before I start. The battery is new but the bike uses a kick start so doesn't matter to much on the old flattening the batter scenario.

However I am having great trouble findin any grips that appear to be volt compatiable. An i dont really want to over load the system chucking on 12 volt grips.

Is there any 6 volt systems?
Am i going to have to resort to pullnig over and putting my gloves on the engine for them to warm up.

Please dont tell me to buy another bike... lol or change the wiring loom to accept 12volt electrics.

Supose if worse came to worse I could probably make sure make shift ones as theres a few guides on the net and I have a best mate thats a sparkie. But that kinda take lot longer than just buying some off the shelf grips.

Please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Really don't think they will work (although I had a feeling the RXS was 12V, must be wrong, dodgy memory when you get way past 20).

Best just to wrap up more warmly (keep your body warm and it is less likely to close the blood supply down to your hands).

All the best

Keith

rxs is 6v i know i have one. I have wondered about that as my hands are cold by some inner gloves thats what i'm doing. Heated grips will probably use more power than the the whole rest of the bike put together. If your dead set on it by a small 12v battery and rigg it up and charge it every time it's at home. But i suggest more gloves

Oki Doki!
Cheers all was just a thought. I am getting new gloves this xams but was hoping there was another answer to the heated grips scenario.

Cheers for the input though.

Mate, i've been looking around as well and although i would personally vouch for getting proper installed heated grips (like my Er 5 has), there ARE slip on heated grips..and to be honest, if you dont want to go into the looming malarky, which i honestly wouldn't consider...maybe get the slip on ones and take them off when not needed.

Just an idea, i had them on my old CG and they worked somewhat... and anything is better then nothing!

All the best.

Get some Muffs they stop the weather getting to your hands in the first place. I just ordered some oxford deluxe ones and should be getting them tomorrow for when I commute into London.

Klause, I was discussing this with a few places today and overall consensus was that Oxford items should NOT be touched with a bargepole..

Maybe its just those three places that have had issues with them, but they all swear against them, so just a warning for you.

I wouldn't have though the charging system on a wee bike like that would cope at all. It can barely light up the headlamps.

Hows about some good old fashioned bodgery? I have heard of two potential techniques although I have never tried them.

1) Wire up two 21W flasher bulbs on a switch. Insert the bulbs into the bar ends and put a bung over them. They get pretty hot.

2) Make a little tube that fits in the bar end to hold those charcoal sticks you use in pocket handwarmers.

Both of these would require the use of very thin grip material such as tennis racket tape and I don't know if they work.

Got them on 2 bikes and they work fine. Far better than the Busters ones. On the GPZ they have been in use for a year with no signs of them melting.

All the best

It seems i stand corrected then Keith lol.

Either way, im only going by what the guys were telling me as i visited each one.

But as you've pointed out, it's personal experience that does it.

Cheers

Hi

To be honest I have heard of people having problems with them. My guess is that Oxford have changed the design (or supplier) at some point in the last few years.

All the best

Someone at work said you can get a relay of some kind to change the power output therefore making it 12volt on a cirtain circuit.

Is this possible? Come on Sparkies help me out Wink

It is possible but its not the voltage thats the problem it the amperage, its unlikely that the charging circuit could cope. For what its worth I used to commute 20 odd miles and found thermal liners the biggest improvement.

You could also consider handguards, windchill is the problem on the hands, the guards can cut it by hell of a lot. Not pretty to look at Confused but not as gay as muffs Very Happy . Loads about as aftermarket stuff for crossers and the like which would probably suit the smaller bike. I've just put some Vstrom ones on my Bandit to see me through the winter, very effective, but look like a pair of elephants ears they're that big Mr. Green
