I put a new set of Metzeler Z6 tyres on the SV about a month ago, after getting a slow puncture in the front. I've done about 300 miles on them so far. I've been impressed with them too, they took almost no time to scrub in and never felt unsettled, even in the poor weather.

I was riding to work thhis morning, when I felt a pop, at which point my steering felt awkward. I pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the front tyre. It seemed fine, so I got back on and rolled forward. There was definately something wrong, as there was a clunk at regular intervals. The chain was ok, so I got off again and noticed a bloody great big bolt sticking out of the rear tyre Mad It still had a bracket of some sort attached. My guess is it had fallen off a car at some point.

So I pull it out of the tyre, and it deflates within seconds. This bolt must have been 1 1/2 inches long, and a fairly wide thread. I phone the RAC, who send someone out straight away.

He turns up with completely the wrong van. It was one of those fast response Transits for cars/electrical faults. He then phones someone else and tells me a recovery vehicle will be here as soon as possible. 2 1/2 hours later and he shows up. We get the bike loaded on and taken back to my house, which was only a short distance away.

So now I have a useless bike in my back garden until I can get a new tyre (which is one order) take the wheel off and get it fitted. I'm quite annoyed really as the tyre has cost me £110 already with fitting, and it looks like I'll be paying the same out again Mad

So as you can understand, I'm not very happy. But it could have been worse. It could have happened on the motorway and the tyre could have popped. There's no damage to myself or the bike, so I suppose I have to be thankful for that.

Bloody expensive this biking thing, isn't it! Sad

Check out this thread

Try making a polite request to Metzeler requesting that they might want to offer a similar service to show a similar loyalty to their customer base as their competitors - gotta be worth a letter to them Thumbs Up

The recovery guy told me about Wheelhouse. Do you reckon I could get a free Metzeler, or was that offer purely for Avons?

The offer I had was part of the manufacturers guarantee offered by Avon. Nothing to do with the garage.

Worth speaking to Metzler about it though.

I have mailed Metzeler UK about it and quoted the Avon Warranty from information on their site.

Well I'm back on the NSR for a while until I can get a new tyre put on the SV. It took me about 5 miles of riding before settling to the bike - it just felt so small at first, but further along the journey I remembered what it was like when I used it everyday for year. It no longer felt so small. I reckon I'll get that 'big bike' feeling again once the SV is repaired Very Happy
