				  Posted: 14:15 - 24 Nov 2005     Post subject: 600cc vs. 1000cc |
				       |

  |

In general terms, what are the characteristic differences between 600cc and 1000cc sport-bikes?

Am I right in thinking the following:

top speed - 155 mph on a 600cc vs. 186 mph on a 1000cc

0-60 - low 3 secs on a 600cc vs. high 2 sec on a 1000cc

gearing - longer gearing on a 1000cc

torque - 40% higher on a 1000cc

weight - very similar

So if I'm not bothered about the absolute top speed, then in real terms is there little to seperate them? Or is the accelleration noticibly better on a 1000cc? I also assume a 1000cc will be less affected by carrying a pillion / paniers due to the higher torque. |

Torque, end of story. On a bigger bike you can be lazier with the gearbox and still do nice fast overtakes, on a 600, you;d have to cog it down to get into the power then overtake. I had a Blackbird for about a year and that was the laziest bike I've ever ridden, damn fast though. When I went back to the Blade it felt gutless and buzzy, when I rode my mates GSXR600 (K4) it felt like a 125.

The GSXR is probably the quickest on the track though, high corner speeds, less mass to accelerate and brake and enough power if you keep the revs up. On the road, the Blade was the best compromise of pwer and handling, which is why I got rid of the Blackbird and bought another Blade.

Cheers

I was only in first gear to get the front up.

I always used to see the clocks go up really quick and not think it was that fast, didn't really pull my arms or anything but when i went in my friends TT that felt alot faster as you were pinned into the seat. |

not quite but a decent compromise

the 600s in some ways make more sense and to the normal to good rider they are better track bikes as they are more usable and ultimately more fun coz u can nail the throttle without having to be almost upright and out of 1st gear(speciafically lookin at both the current gsxr and zx10 which u cant fully open it till 2nd really)

on the road when its shite out the 600 is better

on the road when its nice and warm and not rainin/slippy/crap the 1000 is better

the torque makes it easier to drive fast and power is more accesible, 600s can be a pain to use day to day coz the power is all up top and therefore u cant be usin it round housin estates and such |

i find i enter corners a hell of a lot quicker than most people,

also my downfall 400 + bush.

there was a few moments when i thought please dont spin please dont spin.

also why its claimed the untimate trackday tool, its not very cheap if you slam it into gravel with road kit on. ____________________ Ducati 1299 Panigale
