So I'm just abit bored really, and wondering whose put away their pride and joy for the winter but not given up and dragged out their hack bike instead?

If so what is your hack bike?

I myself am riding a Honda CB450DX-K, not exactly my winter hack as its my only bike till next summer comes along. Smile

I've never completely got the whole winter hack idea....

devils advocate:
I can understand the arguments about corrosion and the added risk of dropping a good bike, but I have a bike so I can ride it.
My hornet is a very practical machine that can handle winter and I like that about it, I try my best to keep it tidy, but not to the point of not riding it.
If you sacrifice riding for the sake of keeping the bike in good condition, all you're doing is loosing out so that the next owner can have a clean bike.

I'm still riding my scooter, i can't afford a hack Sad Even rode it today in the snow, which was quite fun, though my tyres felt flat as F*ck, probably due to the insanely cold tarmac reducing the pressure.

I was out on a CG125 today in the snow. My VT still needs work, so it'll probably escape December's weather. Thumbs Up

My winter hack is a blue Vauxhall Corsa. Thumbs Up

Although I will be using my bandit all year round. Although I would prefer something like an MZ 250 as a hack. Evil or Very Mad

Bearing in mind, if I owned an rsv1000, I'd be commuting in on that too.

Havn't got a hack but still riding around Cool

Sh*t myself this morning though, riding slowly in the snow, went over a drain cover which I didn't see and the backend kicked out on me. It felt like it turned 90 degrees.

At least it woke me up this morning Very Happy

If it's a nice day (not raining or snowing) and the weekend I might get the bike out for a couple of hours, otherwise it's snug under its cover on the patio.

Incidentally, what Corona said is kind of right.

On our VT500 which the other half rides fairly regularly all year round he gave it a good squirt with something that may have been WD40 or similar then rode it to Wales & back the next day. He's not washed it since, and says he isn't going to as there is a layer of the protective stuff under the road grime, and then the road grime will just build up & build up but not penetrate or start to eat anything, in fact it forms a further layer of proection against the salt now the gritters are out.

Come Spring, he will just wash the lot off ready for summer!

(Mine has also been sprayed, but doesn't have as much grime on it yet cos I've not ridden it much in the last month or so.)

For the first time in 6 winters, the bike is being kept wrapped in cotton wool and the warmth of the garage. I now own an appreciating classic, I only work 15 miles from home - its cheaper, more sensible and kinder to the bike.

Plus, my winter hack still has 2 wheels, plus it's surprisingly a lot warmer....

I ride to work about 2 days a week and that is because mrs spitfire works at the same place as me, so it's practical and cheaper to car share most days, I just use the bike on the days when she goes to the gym.

That said I have hardly used the bike at all since I have been re-fitting the kitchen due to the continuous trips required to DIY stores. Hope to get back on the bike soon to enjoy the cold and wet.

The trail bike is an excellent winter bike as it matters not regarding dirt, salt or if I drop it, I would not however ride the R6, I would probably wreck it Wink

Still commuting every day on the bike (except when its threatening to snow). It would be just a winter hack, but I dont want to get my Vincent Black Shadow covered in nasty bugs in the summer. Wink
