PostPosted: 12:05 - 30 Nov 2005    Post subject: Photoshop - Painting my wheels Reply with quote

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to "paint" my wheels on my bike for me on photoshop, im useless with it! (photoshop that is, not the bike!)

I was thinking maybe the same colour as the "HONDA" on the bellypan, or maybe a dark silver colour

Thanks!

That's a mean looking bike! Is it an original paint job? I wouldn't change it.

You're lucky I have tonsilitous. Mad Smile

I actually took an eyedrop from the 'H' in Honda, but it looks a bit maroony for my liking. However it took too long to do, so I'm not going back over it. Razz

Oh and if anyone wants to know how I did it, for future reference, I used magnetic lasso to select the bits I wanted, and then eyedropped the right colour, and then used a paintbrush on 46% opacity.

Wink

Another way of doing it is to select the wheel using the polygonal selection, desaturate it, increase the brightness of it, lower the contrast slightly, colour pick what colour you want and go into variations, colour the beast then do the next one.

Here's grey.

51% opacity, some random shade of grey I used from the palette.

This is an NSX I have been working on. It has had a Corvette C6-R bodykit spliced into it, a carbon texture bonnet added and honda concept wheels put on, also has a double spoiler. Now it is time to paint it from the original blue. (see pic 1)

I will use the same method as I used to colour the wheels on that bike.

Select the outline of the car using the polygonal selection tool. Be careful to go round the wheel arches, do not select the wheels themselves, otherwise you will end up with odd coloured wheels. After you have done this, select the same tool, hold ALT down and then deselect the bits you do not want to colour IE the carbon bonnet, lights, windows, mesh grille etc. Then press CTRL C and CTRL V, this will copy and paste the bodyshell onto a new layer, so that we can desaturate it using CTRL+SHIFT U, getting rid of the colour (see pic 2)

Then go to Image-Adjustments-Variations and build the colour from the selections there (or use a colour picker on the image if you see it) then click ok. This should colour the car the colour you selected. As you are on a different layer, any selection mistakes can be rectified using the eraser without damaging the layer below. Then press CTRL E to merge the layers back together again and huzzah, you have a colour change (see pic 3) This is how I did the wheels on the bike, and it can be done on pretty much anything.

(I am aware of the blue on the grill, it was something I forgot to do at the start of the colour change Rolling Eyes )

By the way, you can have your thread back now Laughing Wink

As it says, the shell, wheels and detail aren't original to the image, so it's to be expected.

Sorry, I was scan reading in a very small IE window (at work with boss over shoulder Whistle )
-------

Not aimed at lilredmachine, but as a general comment...

A common mistake when using layers is combining objects with backgrounds that are of the same focus. This does not represent what you would get with a camera. If you take a perfectly in focus car, and a perfectly in focus background, the eye will pick up that something is wrong. It also removes depth from the image.

This is the original picture.

As you can see, it has the same sort of issue. How would you recommend rectifiying this Sparkie? or is it to do with the picture in general?

I'll have a crack when I get home as I only have jasc paint shop pro at work and I can't get on with it.

It's needs a good bit of work, and experimentation. I can't say just off hand exactly how i would do it, because I don't know yet. As anybody who uses photoshop will tell you, there are a million and one ways of doing the same thing.

The wheels looked much better black.

No excuse for any other colour unless you buy white marchesinis.

Sad.

It looks better. However, I think the resolution of the wheels is a major issue, along with the size.

Better, but the car needs some work, it looks 'laid over' the background, if you get my meaning.

Also, the focus on the various parts of the background should reflect the distance from the lens.

I've just got back in and had a quick go, but I'm tired, and don't have the time or inclination to do it any better. Razz
