Not exactly the prettyest things but oooooh do they work, they throw out 3/4 times more light than my current high beam, i'm really impressed Thumbs Up

They cost £15, ring "roadrunner" driveing lamps, took an hour or two to fit, mostly drilling the faring and trying to line them up (still wonky) they are wired right off the main beam, seeing as that the only time i could use them without flash frying oncoming drivers eyes

Gonna get some round fogs too and then move these elsewhere (the indicators would have been blocked if i'd put them where i wanted to originaly) might tidy up the wiring then too Razz

I was wondering who knicked my old Ford Fiesta fog lights last week Wink Razz

Bet they dazzle a few people?

They are wired to come on with the high beam, so turn them off when other drivers are heading at me (unless they are one of these nobs who drive with high beam on everywhere then give them a couple of reminders Twisted Evil )

Had fogs on my previous bike wired up the same way, they were good but these are even better, fogs are good for lighting up the side of the road and aimed down shouldn't dazzle drivers too much (no more than other cars dipped beam)

You can get diddly driveing lamps but they cost £100 and aren't any better, so feck it, big meaty lights it is Thumbs Up

If fitting (rear) fogs then it/they must:
a) have an illuminated switch or separate tell-tale bulb to warn the operator that the fogs are in operation,
b) be mounted a minimum distance of 100mm from the brake lights, and
c) be no lower than 250mm and no higher than 1000mm from ground level.

In legal terms:
Schedule 11, Part 2 of the Road Vehicles
Lighting Regulations 1989 wrote:
Any vehicle not covered by sub-paragraph (B) - namely 'An agricultural vehicle, engineering plant and a
motor tractor'. If only one foglight's fitted it must be 'On the centre-line or off-side
of the vehicle (disregarding any sidecar forming part of a motor bicycle combination)'

I'd have to look at the regs for front ones (they're not normally found on bikes Confused Shocked).

I've a pair of the Ring Micro Cruise Lites (see here or check eBay) waiting to be fitted. I'm fitting for 2 reasons:
Arrow Increased visibility during the day. Will be using instead of dipped beam. The unusual configuration/pattern (2 lights close together) should make drivers look twice (that's the theory).
Arrow Increased lumination at night. I find this time of year on roads that I know I'm taking some corners like a 20p piece. One of the drawbacks of living in the sticks and country lanes I suppose.

Let us know when you've got your full setup.

HTH Thumbs Up

Thanks for that, bizzarely i was looking at the ring microlights, they'd fit nicely anywhere too, kind of like the round fogs too though..

Got a switch and a pile of wiring bits and bobs ready to fit them, will have them to switch on with the low beam as its seeming very underpowered now

Just tryed them out... one is totaly off aim (because ive still not finished off one mounting propperly) but lights up the kerb nicely Laughing
If anyone is used to crap old lights these really are worth thinking about! its like haveing CAR headlights, they are as brights as the parents mk3 fiesta!

all in all very much the £15 (£5 of electrical bits maybe if you dont allready have them) and the time fiting Thumbs Up

Don't they thrash the battery and charging system?

I've seen them on bikes before, they do help you get noticed. Smile

Unfortunately they have to go off when things are comeing my way, (unless comebody pisses me off) they wont be blinding anyone..

As for the power, had a pair of fogs @ 55watts each on my first cx (with heated grips on at the same time) and this cx puts out more power, ran the fogs for a year with no problems sp am sure these will be totaly fine (provided they're not on with the engine off or useing them all the time)

Tbh i doubt PIAA lights are allot better at (sometimes) three times the price, and even if they are these defenately doing the job Thumbs Up

Glad i didn't shell £200 out on HID xenon lights now Shocked

Oh come on! How many of us have illegal race cans/small number plates etc? (just the race system for me - all else 100% legal Thumbs Up)

At least these have a purpose - to help you see better! Laughing

Suppose. You can fir them to a car so what is really different fitting them to a bike?

They are serving the same purpose.

Quote:

UK REQUIREMENTS

When fiting a pair of driveing lamps you should follow the following legal requirements:

Driveing lamps should be positioned symetrically; the same hight and distance from the sides of the vehicle.
Lenses can be clear or yellow.
Driveing lamps can be used only with the main beam and should be extinguished when headlights are dipped.
There are no requirements for the positioning of driveing lamps, but you should not dazzle any other road user.

So there ye go Wink[/quote]
