vfr rear shock = vtr ??

Hi,

Anyone know a good place to find out if the VTR1000 rear shock is the same one used on a VFR800 Fi ? Need one for my vfr but they're v.expensive from Mr Honda.

ebay lists vtr rear shocks but no vfr, and checking out the ohlins website their replacement product for the vfr is the same model number as their vfr one.

The VTR is a race bike and will have a super stiff rear shock designed mainly for track use.

The VFR800 is a touring/road bike and will have a less sporty shock designed for 2 up riding with panniers.

Very few rear shocks are interchangable, just as with forks.

buying parts from Mr honda is very a wise idea!

Check out David silver, your local scrapyard and on ebay.

Erm, the VTR1000 can either be the Firestorm or the SP1/2. (more commonly would be the storm, and that's a sports tourer like the VFR800).

Watch out with part no's, I took them as gospel from one brake disk manufactuer and ended up with a pair of disks that didn't fit the bike. Seems someone conveniently ballsed the numbers up.

An easy way to tell with this sort of thing is to check on the Ohlins website and see if the fitment for the two bikes is the same. The main variable will be the shock length from the bolt hole at the top to the one at the bottom. If Ohlins quote different part numbers or dimensions, you can bet that the standard shocks are not interchangeable.
